Chapter 7: Chapter 7

A young boy with blue hair and dark red eyes could be seen standing outside the town's wall. The wall is not majestic but it can withstand a small to medium beast tide attack.

He was wearing worn-out leather gear. Though the gear appears far cleaner than most adventurers, there appears a lot of damage to it.

The boy is none other than Alex, who has been roaming the forest region for the past three months hunting beasts and increasing his power.

After reaching level 30, he hunted for a few more days to ensure that he would have enough money. After all these three months he spent in the wild, which would make even the people of this world unhinged.

He needed a good long rest and he is going to get it.

"So this the Therin town. It looks nice."

Alex who was from the modern world wasn't that impressed by its looks but was happy to find it nonetheless.

He learned that this is a border town, located in the Derby Forest region. The local ruler is Baron Thomas Vyker who works under Marshal Dawson.

Derby forest settlements were known to be always under attack from beasts, so the nobility here is not hereditary but based on their military prowess.

There are two marshals from the military who guard this forest region. Under each one there are twelve towns, over which they have absolute authority. As they make one town their base, eleven barons are needed to monitor the other towns for each, making twenty-two barons in total.

Though it is a dangerous position for those barons without any power, they do get rewarded.

After retirement, they can rank up in nobility or get other rare resources as a reward which would increase their family's power. Even as they are working, they are allocated better resources as they had to face constant threats.

They improve faster than others if lady luck blesses them. They needed to survive until retirement to enjoy most of the luxury.

Alex entered the town easily. Since it is directly under the military, there is a lot of traffic. Most of them are adventurers or mercenaries. As they are always in and out of town, they don't have to pay the entry fee. The tax would only be levied when you sell something on the premises of the town.

---

After Alex entered the town, he went and bought a leather bag. He didn't want others to know about the spatial pouch.

The system already cautioned him about greed. The beast cores of most beasts won't cause envy and arise greed. So he should be safe on that point but a spatial pouch is another matter.

It's very rare that even most nobles can't get their hands on them. With its rarity and demand, even a small storage device can fetch a lot of money.

If one was seen publicly every eye would be on it, especially in towns such as this.

After he brought the bag, he found a secluded place and cautiously took out all the cores and placed them in the bag.

After that, the first is to sell the cores and find some decent gear and weapons before finding an Inn to rest and recuperate. He knows once he fell on the bed he may not rise for a few days. So this has to be done first.

---

Dalton's Inn...

After selling all the cores he got over fifty gold. He then visited a merchant store to buy some leather gear. He didn't want to spend much here as he knows that they won't last much anyway. He didn't want to spend much but he still brought standard gear that many use.

Though he didn't want to overspend, he still need to live to use the wealth.

He was already tired of this so he postponed and found a room at an Inn, called Dalton's Inn. It seemed decent so book a single room with an attached bathroom.

Though it cost him more than rooms with shared bathrooms, he needed privacy after sharing too much in nature.

He took a nice bath and had a bite before retiring for the day. He fell on the bed as if he never wanted to wake up...well at least for a month.

---

Baron's Castle...

"Baron Vyker," a young man called before bowing. He then handed what seems to be a letter to the person he addressed. He then bowed again and left.

Baron Thomas Vyker, though considered a noble is a military man at heart. His body was well-built and his hair turned white. He was born a common man in the town of Loresa, which is a few miles away.

If this town fails to prevent beast tide, then Loresa falls. It is the reason, he still held on to this position even if he could have become at a viscount by now. He could have retired to a safe place and lived his life in luxury but he didn't.

He didn't want the town he was born and raised to fall if any mishap happens. Moreover, he didn't have much to look for after his wife and young son died to beasts years ago. Now he has only old memories to protect.

The baron opened the letter which he was waiting for since early in the morning. It was regarding the recent activities of beasts in the region. They started acting strange for the past five months. He needed to make sure what was happening.

If there is an imminent threat, he should prepare for it, or else there would be a lot of damage. He is someone who hates to be caught by surprise.

Two months ago he sent a few of his scouts to find out what was happening in the forest. He even sent letters to other Barons to see if they have the same problem.

At first, their response seemed that there is no problem but it changed a week ago. The barons started to see the weirdness happening around them.

His scouts confirmed that the beasts are moving erratically. They said that they aren't moving as they were supposed to be moving and they are tracking their movement. They also informed him in the last report that they were nearing unraveling the mystery as the number of beasts started to increase.

The letter that the baron received supposedly should hold the answer to the mystery. He hoped for it. If it drags too long, he had a bad feeling that something might happen.
