"Damn, this is not what I had in mind when I thought to hunt big beasts," Alex wailed at the sky, running as if his life depends on it. Indeed it was, as much as in the one chasing him.
The night after he made the decision to leave low-level beasts as they don't give him much experience, he started to hunt bigger beasts. It went fine for a few days but all went to hell when he encountered a rhino beast.
Silver-horn Rhino is classified as a 3-Star beast when it reaches adulthood. The one that is chasing Alex is not an adult and is considered as a youth, but is at peak 2-Star.
The reason for this small red horn beside the silver horn on its snout. This is a mutant variation that has fire affinity. This made it easier for the rhino to reach peak 2-star before adulthood.
A mutant beast would reach a star or two above the normal limit of the beasts. The limit is the power level that the beast can reach on its own. If there is external help they can break the limit but it wouldn't readily available.
The external help is what the intelligent beings termed as 'treasures'. Whenever such things surfaced there would be battles to possess such things.
Even without those treasures, someone of intelligence can reach upper levels but it is still troublesome.
If they get enlightenment about the ways of the world or anything present in the world, they would help a bit. Even if it would be small most of the time, it would help a lot as many reach peak and can't break into next.
Alex ran for an hour before he reached a river bank. The rhino seemed relentless to let its prey escape.
[Host, jump into the river to escape.]
"The river? I may not know this world but where I am from rhinos are aquatic animals. They hunt better in water. These beasts are similar to them, aren't they?"
[You might be thinking of hippos. Rhinos are semi-aquatic. They love mud but not all rhino species love going into water bodies. Moreover, this beast has fire affinity which makes their senses scream to not jump into a river.]
[You may get a bit of heads-up with its hesitation, even if decides to jump in.]
"Is that so? I didn't know that. Do all fire users react like that?"
[No, not an intelligent one who thinks logically, but these beasts aren't considered intelligent yet. Now stop wasting time and jump.]
"Okay, here I go," and Alex jumped into the river allowing the river to drag him downstream with it.
The Rhino hesitated to jump and by the time it made a decision its prey was nowhere to be seen. It roared for a few seconds for losing its prey and left the area.

Gasp! Gasp!
"That was a close one. Nearly lost my new life not even after two months."
[This isn't your previous world. Though your world is less dangerous now, it was no different from this one. As there were not many active supernatural things happening in your previous world, it slowly turned safer.]
[Here it is different. The dangers became worse as time progressed. Though there are many times, someone tries to bring order to this world, it's not possible to fully control it. You can only do so much.]
[Dangers lurk everywhere in the forms of beasts in forests or the greed of people.]
"Indeed, beasts are dangerous but they can be seen. Greed is the unseen enemy that is far more dangerous than a beast."
[Yes, so if you aren't strong, even in a human settlement you won't survive.]
"You are indeed correct...wait, is that why you vehemently refused to show me the path to a human settlement."
[You need to be at least 1-Star to be safe for the most part. Since you can't use Mana or Aura, you have to depend on physical prowess but your enemies don't. They would probably use one or both. So this is the minimum required.]
[If you have a good weapon or armor, even valuables that are worth not much, no one knows when the sins of people arise. If you held a good weapon, you should be strong enough to hold that in your hands or you may forfeit your life.]
"You are right on that front, but I would like to talk to you."
[You are speaking with me.]
Cough! Cough!
"I mean someone that's not in my head. Someone flesh and blood that I can see and feel."
[I get your point. So quickly become powerful, so that you can find a town or city to settle.]
"Uhuh."

One month passed, while Alex kept hunting during the day and sleeping at night. Except for the nights around Full Moon and the full moon itself, he didn't risk hunting on other nights. It would be only around these nights, his power and experience gained would be almost doubled.
This is safer than any other day, except for the darkness which makes it difficult to identify things. As there would be abundant moonlight during these nights to see the surroundings, though it would pale compared to sunlight, it was enough.
Alex was resting for the night in the cozy cave he found two days before. Tonight he won't gain much, so he decided to stay put for the night.
"System, it has been some time since I saw my progress. Bring up my status screen."
[As you wish Host.]
