The 3-star beasts made their move. They ordered all the 2-star beasts to concentrate on Alex, while they engage the 3-star humans.
The other party wanted to get rid of such genius before it properly sprouts. Though it may hinder their plan, for now, they chose this in favor of the success of their long-term plan. If the genius was let to live, he would cause a lot of trouble in the future, even leading to the complete failure of their plan.
They would rather risk today than regret it later.
Obviously, this didn't escape the eyes of the baron but a problem arose. The 3-star beasts started to move to stop him and the captains which wouldn't have been a problem if not for the number.
The estimated 3-star beasts would be one or two but the report is wrong. There are six 3-star beasts. Now he had to concentrate on those beasts.
Even with three 3-star captains under him, it would be a stretch to contain them. The captains could stall one each but stalling three on his own is not achievable. Killing them would be beyond difficult.
Now all they could do is stall those 3-star beasts and pray that there is no 4-star beast.
As the star level increases so do the pride of either human or beast. Most don't work for lower star ones or even with equal star ones, their pride won't allow this.
If they are on an equal level, working together is only possible if there are any benefits. Only then it is possible but there is a problem.
The beasts are considered intelligent only after they reach the 4-star power level. There are many 3-star beasts who lead beast tides but there won't be any order in those attacks.
Most beasts attack when it's dark or even in bright daylight but this is different. The battle started just before dawn when many humans would be still sleepy and not ready for battle.
More to the point, there are six 3-star beasts, which is absurd unless a higher beast is commanding them.
There is another how this may happen. If the beasts are under control, which could be explained by the mystery ritual that happened a few days ago.
If the perpetrators chose 3-star would also mean they had at least one 4-star who would be used before the beasts came under control.
if the theory is correct on either account, that names disaster to the town. A lot of people will die.
Looking at upcoming doom the baron spoke to the captains, "You three take two 2-star warriors each and take on a 3-star each. I will stall the other three as long as I can. First, complete all your three tasks before coming to aid me."
"Yes my lord," with that the three captains dispersed to their duties. The baron chose his three targets, which are in no way inferior to his captains.
"This would be one hell of a day", the baron thought to himself.

Alex who had been collecting the leeks for the last few hours suddenly felt immense pressure. A lot of 2-star beasts started to target him.
No matter how many times he tried to evade the confrontation, they didn't leave him alone. He has no idea why.
'Did I kill their family member that they target me?'
Though it was a hassle, he persevered.
'It was good that I bought health and stamina potions. I would have been dead if not for them.'
'Shit, there are a lot of tears in my armor. Great, the armor is ruined again, I need to buy new gear again.'
Rooaarr!
Sighs!
'Another 2-star beast, what in the world is going on?'
'If this goes on like this, I would run out of potions. Without them, I wouldn't have much stamina left to go through this shit.'
Clank!
'Shit it has steel claws. One hit to vital points and I would be a goner.'
Clank!
'These 2-star beasts are acting weird. I need to conserve my stamina.'
'Strike when you see a chance. Don't waste energy trying unusual moves.'
Slash!
'There, another dead 2-star beast.'
'Aarrgh, two more coming my way...damn it.'

"Make sure you remember that boy's face," said the first grey-robed man.
"I know that," replied the second one.
"Not even an idiot would forget someone that look like that," said the third.
"Yes, you are right. His facial features are too eye-catching," agreed the second one.
"No need to blabber. If he dies that's well and good. If not, he should be recorded in our files. That one would definitely be a problem for us if we ever encounter him," said the first one in a stern voice.

The time has already turned from dawn to dusk but the battle is not over.
Thousands of beasts died and the deaths of humans are no less in number. This didn't end the battle. There are still thousands but the humans are already weakened.
The Moon slowly rose in the sky. A cool breeze started to flow across the land.
For the warriors who have been battling from dawn, through the burning sun in the noon, it felt nice.
The night didn't just didn't cool the hot heads but some much-needed help to Alex.
The moon is shining high in the sky illuminating the darkened night.
