Chapter 23: Cooking
Me and Hunter ended up laying around the rest of the day. I had asked about what he wanted to do while he was here and he didn't have any idea of what he would want to do. We lauded around talking, he asked questions about what sports I played and what my favorite things to do were when I lived here. He was trying to get to know me more.which was sweet.
"Are you going to compete in anything now that we're are about to be second years?"
"I don't really have a choice."
"What's do you mean?"
"Well headmaster called me in, it's already been decided. I'm going to be on the track team, and I'll be a pole vaulter."
"I heard that's hard, have you ever done it before?"
"No, that's the issue. I'm hoping to get to when I help with the work shops. Headmaster thinks I will be a good fit for it though because of competing in gymnastics and then being fast."
"It's also one of the few sports that abilities can't be used and don't really matter, so you will probably only encounter mid-tiers or maybe some other low-tiers when you are doing it."
"Yeah that's probably why headmaster wants me to be on its team. I just don't know, what if I'm not good at it."
"Megs, I'm sure you will be fine."
"Maybe." We heard the door start to open. "Moms home already, I can't believe it's already this late."
With that my mom walked in the door, she appeared tired but still had a smile on her face. She was holding a bag with chicken and corn in it. "Megan, can you get the small grill and start it please."
"Of course mom."
"I'm going to go shower if you don't miss starting dinner."
"Ok." I got up and grabbed the bags from her. I saw a new look on her face. She had just realized the futon was a bed and that I came from it, I also think she had just noticed Hunter was on it as well. I could see worry in her eyes, and she recovered her smiling expression. She wasn't thrilled with it but I could also feel that she knew we would be alone out there and since neither of us had roommates back at the dorms, if something more was going on there was nobody there who would stop it. She walked to the bathroom but didn't say a word about it.
I got the small grill out from underneath the sink. The small grill is portable it can fit on the counter, it looks like a grill but it doesn't have the legs that would hold up the top of a grill. Also instead of using gas or coals to cook the food it was able to cook it by using heat powered by electricity. I plugged it in and turned the nobs at its base to the heat we wanted, the small grill had two layers of grates to cook food on. I put seasoning on the chicken and put it on the grill. I shucked the corn and Hunter came over to help me. I then got out some tinfoil and put butter and some seasoning on the corn. Then wrapped the corn completely in the tinfoil and set it aside. While I wrapped the corn Hunter put 3 plates on the table and put silverware out with it. I smiled we really were a good team and always seemed to get things done quickly when we were together.
