Chapter 81: Chapter 81: A Nightly Conversation—Is There Nothing Else?

"You god-servant scum! I may be useless, but I'm not dead yet!"

"Before I'm buried, you'd better stay far away from Eastern Academy!"

As Cain's words fell, the golden barrier expanded again, sweeping over everyone at the speed of light.

At that moment, Liam was still darting around, hunting down one god-servant after another, skewering them with his icy spears. However, the situation became tricky. The god-servants had realized he could identify the real god-servants among them, so they openly used their human shields—previously manipulated civilians—to protect themselves and threaten him.

Liam, not one to be intimidated, planned to strike regardless. However, the surrounding superhumans, afraid he might inadvertently harm the civilians, vehemently stopped him. To Liam's dismay, they intended to negotiate with the god-servants.

This behavior was utterly nonsensical to Liam, who could only stand by, looking for an opportunity to take a clean shot. But then, he suddenly felt his heart skip a beat. The Voices of All Things began to roar wildly in his ears.

This unsettling feeling was reminiscent of his rookie days, like when he first faced god-servants.

What's going on?

Suddenly, he looked up sharply and shouted:

"Watch out!"

Without caring for the others, he quickly shielded his vital areas. Even with his semi-divine body, he felt a sense of insecurity—The Voices of All Things' warning was far too urgent.

The next moment, a terrifying golden energy wave swept through his body, carrying a heart-palpitating force. However, nothing happened.

Liam: ...?

He cautiously looked down at himself, checking every part of his body.

Nothing wrong?

He was ready to take a heavy hit, but he didn't even get scratched?

What a letdown, like boasting he could last long but finishing in seconds. He felt frustrated.

Looking up, he noticed that the students and civilians around him were equally confused, standing there scratching their heads. Meanwhile, the god-servants were stuck to the golden barrier, being pushed back.

Their bodies emitted black smoke, convulsing as if enduring excruciating pain. Despite the radiant golden light, their mouths were wide open, unable to produce any sound, silently suffering this cruel torture.

Soon, their bodies were burnt to ashes, dissolving into black smoke and disappearing like vengeful ghosts.

This scene unfolded all around Eastern Academy.

Civilians and students remained unharmed, but as soon as the golden barrier touched a god-servant, it revealed its terrifying nature, mercilessly claiming their lives.

The golden light was gentle with its own people but brutally savage with its enemies.

Liam raised his head, squinting at the golden figure in the sky, resembling a grand Buddha. He had only two thoughts:

First: How many powers does this guy have? He seems like a walking treasure chest.

Second: If the headmaster had this kind of power, why didn't he act sooner? He wasted my gaming time!

Grumbling in his mind for a while, Liam saw the situation around him stabilizing and flew towards Cain's position.

...

Cain floated mid-air, raising his hands, two deceased divine embryos hovering before him. He squeezed them hard, and the embryos exploded, dispersing into light and vanishing into the sky.

The next moment, a group of superhumans who could fly gathered around him, stopping before Cain.

"Haha, hello everyone! You've worked hard tonight."

Hard work, my foot! If you'd come out sooner, we'd all be home in bed already!

Liam muttered to himself, rolling his eyes.

But it didn't matter. At least he got to earn some points.

"Where have you been just now? Is this a new power you developed? I've never seen it before."

Vice Principal Tang Jinyi asked without pressing him about his earlier absence, possibly out of habit.

Liam was surprised by this question. It suggested Cain's abilities were so versatile that even those who had fought alongside him didn't fully understand them.

Cain brushed off the question, quickly changing the subject:

"Oh... Yes, yes, I was chatting with someone and took on a disciple."

"Who?!" Tang Jinyi asked, surprised. She knew some of Cain's past and never expected him to take on another disciple.

"I won't say who. It's just between me and her."

"I can't teach her much. Let's not cause her more trouble because of me."

Cain replied cheerfully, then began instructing everyone to head back, reminding them that Eastern Academy's formal classes would start the next day, and they shouldn't miss their rest.

As for the problem of the bewitched civilians, the military had been notified. It would undoubtedly cause issues, but those would be dealt with later.

Just like that, the troublesome situation was swiftly resolved with Cain's decisive action.

The group acknowledged Cain's instructions and began dispersing. However, while more and more people left, Liam remained floating there, showing no intention of leaving.

Vice Principal Tang Jinyi noticed this and asked:

"Child, do you need something?"

"Ah, I just wanted to have a word with the headmaster, just some casual questions," Liam replied with a smile.

Everyone left gave him a puzzled look but eventually left, giving the two some space to talk.

"Haha! What do you want to ask, kid? I know a lot, you know."

Cain flew over, giving Liam a hearty slap on the shoulder, smiling all the while.

Liam quickly put on a professional smile and said:

"Actually, it's nothing much. I just wanted to ask you about something."

"I gave you a red envelope before, right? What did it say?"

Cain's expression froze. "Ah... Wasn't it just about what happened last time? It mentioned the possibility of the other side planning a divine descent."

"But I didn't expect them to come in such numbers. That was my negligence. I should apologize to you. It was tough on you last time."

He immediately tried to appease Liam, saying, "As for the rewards, the Human Alliance is still reviewing them, but don't worry, you won't be shortchanged!"

However, this time Liam wasn't after rewards. A hint of suspicion flashed in his eyes:

"Is that all? Nothing... else?"

"Yes, nothing else," Cain confirmed.
