As soon as Sophia heard Liam's words, she felt something was off and quickly asked, "Why do you think that way?"
But after asking, she received no response. Turning to look, she saw that his eyes were closed, his breathing steady—he was clearly already asleep.
"Did he fall asleep just like that?" she thought to herself. "Maybe he's just really exhausted."
Her gaze moved downward. She had already treated the wounds on his upper body, but now there were still some on his lower body that needed attention.
And here was the problem.
Sophia stood there, alone in the dim light, feeling conflicted for a long time before finally summoning the courage to lift the towel.
She carefully covered the crucial area and began tending to the few remaining wounds on his legs. Thankfully, Liam was a heavy sleeper that night, and there were no major "reactions." Otherwise, the awkwardness would have been unbearable.
After about ten more minutes, Sophia, now sweating lightly, finished treating all of his injuries. It wasn't that the task itself was exhausting; she was simply nervous.
As she looked at Liam's body, exuding masculinity, her face flushed red. She didn't know why, but she suddenly felt a strong curiosity, an urge to lift the towel covering the forbidden area.
Of course, reason won out in the end. After all, if Liam woke up during that moment, she wasn't sure if she would need to silence him or what.
She mentally scolded herself, slapping her forehead. "Why on earth am I thinking about this? Did I get poisoned or something?"
Since Liam was already asleep and she was alone, Sophia allowed herself to let loose, acting more like her online persona, "Sour Yogurt."
She kept looking at Liam, left, right, and center, before puffing up her cheeks in a cute, pouty expression. "Damn it, I just realized—here I am, a beautiful woman, sitting by your bed in the middle of the night, treating your wounds, and you just go to sleep? So clueless!"
While she was busy being playful and silly, Liam's face caught her attention. With his messy hair, he looked so peaceful in his sleep, without his usual deadpan expression or that nonchalant attitude. There was even a little bit of drool at the corner of his mouth, which made him look kind of... cute.
She reached out impulsively and poked his drooling face, quickly pulling her hand back as if she'd been shocked, her face turning redder.
She had never been this bold in her entire life, but something about being around Liam made her feel like she could be herself.
After calming down, she knew it was time to leave. Before she left, she took one last look at Liam, suppressing all her mischievous thoughts, and thought to herself:
"You say you want rewards, money, and that you don't want to be a good person, that being a good person comes with too many downsides. But when you decided to go out on your own, you didn't know if you'd get anything out of it or if you could even defeat them."
"So why... why did you say those things?"
"Is it loneliness... distrust of people... or something else?"
After pondering for a few minutes, she shook her head, deciding not to dwell too much on the thoughts of this strange man.
As she left, she grabbed the heavily damaged combat suit, intending to throw it away. It was too torn up, and she figured she could just get him a new one later.
But as soon as she picked it up, she noticed something was off. It was heavier than it should be, and there was a clinking sound.
Frowning, she shook the suit, and several small metal items fell out.
Picking one up, she noticed the angelic engravings and peculiar patterns, clearly divine in origin.
It turned out that after turning the God Servants into icy fragments, Liam had looted every storage item they had.
Judging by the number, he hadn't missed a single one!
Sophia: I can't even with this guy...
Looking at Liam's somewhat unbecoming sleeping posture, her mouth twitched slightly.
Of course, it's you...
A few minutes later, Sophia exited Liam's room and headed downstairs. Her expression had returned to its usual cold and distant demeanor, the same as the Ice War God everyone knew. She then made a call.
"Is the battlefield cleaned up? Report to headquarters and request the restoration of the surveillance footage."
"And summarize the overall situation. I'll inform the academy and the Human Alliance. When we 'find' this mysterious individual, they should receive all the rewards they're due."
After hanging up, Sophia looked back at the dark building.
Don't worry. You'll get all the rewards you deserve in the end.
...
The next day, Liam didn't wake up until the sun was high in the sky, filling the room with light. As he lay under the covers, groggy, the events of the previous night slowly came back to him.
He quickly sat up, looking around to see that Sophia was long gone. The numerous wounds crisscrossing his body had mostly healed, with many of them now just faint red marks.
Throwing on some clothes, he stood up and noticed a ring on the coffee table, along with a piece of paper. The handwriting was clearly feminine—obviously left by Sophia.
"Those storage items you took from the God Servants are exclusive to them, with certain restrictions in place. Plus, their internal space isn't very large, making them inferior products."
"From now on, use this one instead. I've already transferred your storage items into it. Try practicing how to break the seals on each of them."
Aside from those two sentences, the rest of the note was instructions on how to use mental energy to control the storage items.
After reading the entire note, Liam let out a long breath. Since the first day they met, Sophia had helped him quite a lot. He hadn't even thanked her properly yet.
Next time he had the chance, he would have to thank her in person.
He picked up the exquisitely crafted ring, closing his eyes.
Now it was time to see what treasures the God Servants had been carrying.
Hopefully, there's plenty of money...
