"What?" The breath of the few superhumans caught in their throats, and they quickly followed in Sofia's footsteps.
"It wasn't you? Then who was it? Did someone from headquarters arrive?"
"Could it be a rogue superhuman without registration?"
"Or perhaps someone from another organization who happened to be nearby?"
"So where is this person? They practically saved many lives—they deserve a proper thank you!"
The superhumans discussed among themselves. The sudden relaxation after such intense tension made them more talkative.
"I don't know for sure. I only have a guess, but it needs further confirmation."
"This power is quite similar to one of the students I'm sponsoring this year."
As Sofia spoke, she continued toward the God Fetus, placing her hand on the giant ice egg.
She then closed her eyes as if she was carefully sensing something.
Her words immediately sparked opposition from the surrounding superhumans.
"That can't be right. Even if a student has outstanding talent, they shouldn't be able to face so many of the God's servants alone."
"Exactly, even with an S-grade talent, they're still vulnerable before they fully mature."
"Also, the ruthless way this was handled doesn't seem like something a student would do."
"By the way, which student has impressed you so much?"
"Shh." As the voices of the others surrounded her, Sofia suddenly put a finger to her lips, signaling them to be quiet.
Her brow furrowed as she opened her eyes, staring at the God Fetus in surprise.
"This God Fetus... it's still alive!"
"What?!" At her words, the four superhumans immediately crowded around, each eager to touch the ice-sealed God Fetus, feeling the pulse of life within.
It was true! The God Fetus was really alive!
"In the history of humanity, how many times have we successfully captured a living God Fetus?" one of the female superhumans asked, her voice trembling as she gently caressed the ice egg.
"Counting this time, there have been four!"
"A living God Fetus... it's really a living God Fetus!"
The black-faced man clapped his hands heavily, speaking excitedly, "This is great! We finally have another living specimen to study!"
Then he turned his gaze back to Sofia, saying, "Whoever did this... it really wasn't you, War Goddess?"
"They stopped a divine descent ritual, wiped out an entire squad of the God's servants, and even captured a living God Fetus. This is an incredible feat! Any reward they ask for wouldn't be too much!"
Sofia placed her hand down, replying, "Yes, it's indeed a great accomplishment. I don't even know how they managed to do it."
"And if my guess is correct, they probably don't even realize how extraordinary what they've done is."
The superhumans were puzzled by Sofia's words, feeling as though she was confident in knowing who had done it.
"Alright, let's not speculate. Clean up the area and work on restoring the surveillance cameras and other monitoring devices."
"Once we confirm who did this, they must receive every bit of credit and reward they deserve!"
Ring! Ring!
As soon as Sofia finished speaking, the phone of the masked woman beside her rang.
After listening for a moment, the masked woman looked up at the others and said, "The South Road Police Station just reported that two unconscious children were found at their door. It seems they are the two missing kids. They've been found!"
Sofia was stunned and quickly turned to say, "Muzi, come with me. The rest of you clean up the battlefield and stabilize the energy of the God Fetus, preparing it for transfer."
Muzi, the masked woman with healing abilities, followed Sofia at high speed, leaving the others behind.
Watching their swift departure, the black-faced man scratched his head and said, "Something seems off about this whole situation. Why do I get the feeling that when she talks about that student, her tone changes?"
Another superhuman agreed, "I don't get it either. I still can't believe a student who hasn't even enrolled yet could do this, taking down so many God's servants and priests alone. That would require Fourth Realm strength. I'm only in the Third Realm!"
The remaining female superhuman rolled her eyes at the two men as she continued cleaning up, saying, "Are you two dense? Didn't you notice? This is the first time I've seen An Yi smile today, and her tone was so gentle."
"Like a... girl in love."
"In reality, she's carrying a heavy burden. But she's only nineteen... At that age, it's time to start thinking about... you know..."
The three of them exchanged glances.
...
Sofia and Muzi moved swiftly, soon reaching their destination.
As they arrived, they saw a woman crying hysterically under the yellow light of the police station entrance, surrounded by officers.
"My children... my children, you must be okay. How can I live if something happens to you..."
The woman's eyes were swollen from crying, and she was too weak to even speak.
"Ma'am, please calm down. Your children have lost some blood, but the bleeding has stopped, and they have no other injuries. They are not in any immediate danger. The ambulance is on its way, so please take care of yourself."
The officer tried to comfort her, but how could she not be worried?
She had seen that all ten of her son and daughter's fingernails had been pried off. Witnessing such a scene had torn her heart apart. They were so young—how much pain and despair must they have endured?
Next to her stood a burly man, his head bowed in shame, his eyes red, unable to speak.
"Are the children okay?" Sofia asked as she approached.
The man, noticing the arrival of superhumans, asked hoarsely, "Was it you who saved my children?"
Sofia hesitated for a moment, but before she could respond, the man suddenly fell forward.
Bang!
He dropped to his knees, his head hitting the ground hard, even leaving a trace of blood on his forehead.
This man, for the sake of his children, knelt before someone who was probably twenty years younger than him.
"Thank you! Thank you for saving my children!"
Sofia quickly stepped aside, unwilling to accept his kneeling gratitude. She couldn't stop a wave of guilt from rising in her heart.
Before arriving here, while searching for clues, her mind had been filled with grand thoughts of duty, worried about the catastrophic consequences the God's servants might bring, fearing the destruction of a divine descent.
But she had overlooked one crucial thing—the lives of those two children were just as invaluable. They were the entirety of a family's hope.
She had been arrogantly focused on the disastrous impact a divine descent could have, while Liam was simply trying to save two innocent children.
