Chapter 83: The Dragon Emperor and The Cursed Sword

After a day's flight towards Ireland, I am now in front of Trinity College to meet with professor Williams. I went straight to his office in the library. When I reached his office, I knocked on his door and didn't get any answers. I was going to leave to try another time, but I heard something falling inside his office.

I quickly entered his office and saw many books on top of a man in his thirties. I quickly helped the man up and checked for any injuries. After confirming that he has no injuries, I looked around and didn't find anyone except for this man.

Joseph: "Sorry for barging in, but I wondered where Professor Williams?" I said while looking around. The man in front of me just laughed out loud, which confused me.

???: "Do I not look like a Professor to you?" when I heard his words, I looked at him and saw the name tag on his right chest. I was surprised by the man in front of me. He looked way too young to be friends with Richard Croft.

Williams: "don't get fooled by my baby face. I am, in fact, over sixty years old." he said with a smug smile on his face. I just looked at him in awe when I heard he is over sixty years old while he seems like he is still in his thirties. "So why are you here, you don't look like one of the students that go here."

Joseph: "sorry about that, Professor, for not recognizing you. I thought you would be older." the professor didn't mind my words and smiled at me. "I heard that you had an expedition on the Kunlun Mountains with Richard Croft. I wanted to find out what you were looking for there."

Williams: "I would advise you to not go through with your plan," he said while sitting down behind his desk.

Joseph: "what did you find there, Profesor?" the professor looked outside the window and contemplated before turning toward me.

Williams: "have you ever heard of Shangri-la" when I heard his words, I was surprised as to why he brought the lost city into this conversation. The Professor saw my surprised look and continued his words. "Long ago, Richard and I wanted to find the long lost city of Shangri-la, but instead, we found something unnatural there."

Joseph: "So why did you go there?" I said while looking questioningly at him.

Williams: "It wasn't my idea to look for Shangri-la; it was Richard who wanted to find the Fountain of Youth." he said while getting up and walking towards his bookshelf and picking up a book and started reading it. "After the death of his wife, he became obsessed with how to prolong life itself." The professor looked at me for a minute and asked me a question.

Williams: "I am sorry, but I never got your name," he said while looking curiously at me.

Joseph: "Sorry, I never introduced myself to you. My name is Joseph Maiava; I wanted to know the origins of this sword." I said while putting a long case on top of his desk. The professor opened the chest and was surprised to see the black sword.

Williams: "Mr. Maiava, where did you get this sword from," he said while holding the blade and reading the Chinese text.

Joseph: "my colleagues gave it to me as part of a contract.."I said without faltering my words. "So, do you have any information about this sword." The Professor smiled in excitement as he examined this sword.

Williams: "Oh my god, it can't be this should have been lost a long time ago," he mumbled to himself while hurriedly going to his work desk and putting the blade down under the light and thoroughly checking the sword. "Richard was right; the Dragon Emperor didn't die."

Joseph: "who is this Dragon Emperor.." the professor looked at me and walked towards the book he left on his desk.

Williams: "three thousand years ago, there was a civil war played out in ancient China. Every kingdom is struggling for power and land, but one General had a ruthless ambition to make himself the Emperor by the sword." he said while reading a book.

Joseph: "So he killed everyone in his way to becoming a ruthless Emperor, that still doesn't answer about the sword." I said while pointing at the sword on the table.

Williams: "Yes, but after declaring himself the Dragon Emperor, the Emperor has one enemy left that he needed to defeat that is death itself."

Joseph: "So he has sent everyone searching for the mythical Shangri-la to find the fountain of youth." I said confidently, but the professor looked at me like I am an idiot. "What I did I say something wrong."

Williams: "You are close, but the Emperor didn't believe that Shangri-la existed." he said while continuing reading his book, "No, he sent his trusted General to look for the Divine Doctor."

Joseph: "Okay, so the Divine Doctor made the Emperor young again. That still doesn't add up to the sword."

Williams: "No, the divine Doctor Made the Emperor Immortal in exchange that he would get to marry the General that was sent to fetch him." when I heard this, I looked confusedly at him.

Joseph: "Okay… so the doctor is gay. And I could probably guess that the Emperor liked his General too." I said while looking at the Professor. Who looked annoyingly at me. "What did I make another mistake again."

Williams: "Yes, the trusted General that the Emperor has sent to look for the Divine Doctor is his woman." when I heard this, I could probably guess what this is heading too.

Joseph: "So the emperor made a deal with the doctor but didn't keep their agreement. But it was too late. The emperor was now immortal. The Divine doctor, out of desperation, made a cursed sword that would kill the emperor." I said while looking at the sword on the table.

Williams: "Yes, but the Doctor failed to kill the Emperor, so he poisoned the emperor so that he would feel unimaginable pain that he would wish to kill himself."

Joseph: "so he tried to find the Fountain of Youth, hoping that it could cure his illness." I said while thinking about one more possibility, "so what happened to the Emperor after that."

Williams: "another Civil war erupted, and the emperor was betrayed by his trusted General and woman who used the cursed sword that was made to kill him." he then looked at the sword and frowned. "But if that sword is still here, it means that the general failed to kill the emperor… I just hope that these stories are fairy tales, or we would feel the wrath of the Emperor if he cured himself."

I then went toward the sword and grabbed it's hilt and put it back to its sheath. I then turned around and asked another question that has been bothering me.

Joseph: "So what made you abandon your expedition to Shangri-la. I could tell that you probably found something in your expedition." the professor paused for a second before answering my question.

Williams: "We were hunted down one by one by something. Something or someone is guarding the entrance of Shangri-la… Richard and I saw the gate, but we turned back after losing so many people going up there." he then sternly looked at me and warned me about the dangers of going up there. "Only death awaits for any explorer who wishes to find the entrance of Shangri-la, I hope you will change your mind after hearing my warnings..."
