Gunan saw his expression.
It had been a long time since Lu Jin's expressionless face broke.
His chest tightened painfully, but he still continued.
This was what he owed to Lu Jin a long time ago. The reason why he became so twisted started that day.
"I was a child who faithfully followed my only 'father'. I know what death was and what it meant to kill. But I still did it."
Lu Jin took a step back. He could feel his breath leaving him. He felt dizzy.
Gunan....
He killed his mother?
The image of the man in front of him overlapped with a little boy's.
The memories wherein he always told the young Gunan how great his mother was, how sweet his mother was, and how he always brought the grown up Gunan to his mother's burial site resurfaced in his mind.
So all those years...
"No...." He shook his head blankly.

-This is why Lu Jin could not escape from Ming Zhi Yi, because of his guilt towards Gunan. It was him who pulled in Gunan to his father's side, and when he saw Gunan becoming more like his father, he forced himself to stay. Gunan knew that Lu Jin remained under his father's control because of him, but he turned a blind eye to it since he doesn't want Lu Jin to leave as well. It became his guilt.
But perhpaps because he owed Lu Jin too much and saw an opportunity, he built Univ One and hoped to conquer the Guan Empire. With this, his value will rise and he will no longer be Lu Jin's shackle. He will become a person that Ming Zhi Yi could no longer throw anytime.
However, his plan failed.
He returned to being a powerless man and Lu Jin's weakness.
It is not because Gunan wanted to redeem himself, he just felt that everything is hopeless.
Everyone is born in a blank slate. Villains don't just show up for no reason, they have those experiences and upbringing that made them into what they are. Those traumatic experiences does not justify their actions, but I think every one of them has a backstory that deserves to be known.
