Though to the world she is a member of the wealthy and powerful Callahan family, she is treated as a servant in private. When she is sixteen she accidentally discovers why they bothered to keep the bastard child they despised. They intend to sell her off to rich old men in exchange for business benefits. Charlie is determined to escape the future that her so-called family have planned for her and to forge her own path and create her own happy ending.
