Chapter 1: No Strings Attached

Levi, a rather skinny young man with brown hair and green eyes was standing finishing up work on a laptop in his uncle's computer repair shop. At 23 years old this is the only job he has ever known since he started to help out nearly 9 years ago when he moved to South Park after his parents died. Standing 6 feet tall, he's grown a lot since then, at least physically. He has never really connected well with others and hardly even talks unless absolutely necessary. One of the reasons he likes this job, almost all the conversation are strictly professional.

"Excuse me sir," a quiet but kind voice broke the silence in the small workshop, "I know I'm a little early but I was wondering if my laptop was almost done?"

Levi looked up to the customer as he was finishing up his work. "Oh Mrs. Clark, yes I'm finishing up now."

"That's great to hear. I'm sorry I'm in a bit of a hurry, my daughter is getting married this afternoon and I want to make sure my laptop works for all the pictures that awaits." the woman said while looking down at her wrist watch.

As the woman was speaking Levi was quickening his pace as she kept ranting on and on.

"She showed me the dress a week ago."

"Here you go ma'am, everything is good as new." Levi said a little forcefully but staying in his professional tone of voice.

"I can't believe she only waited three weeks to get married but you know what they say about the red string of fate. Once you get attached to someone, it only means you were destined to be together."

Levi grew irate as he calculated the total cost of the bill in the register. "Okay so I didn't need to replace anything just updated some drivers and removed some malware, so your total is $47.63 for small amount of labor." he said while handing her the receipt.

"Oh really, I'm actually shocked it was a small bill. I'm quiet relieved it was so cheap."

"It's usually parts that make repair jobs expensive, in this case it was our time and knowledge that got the job done." Levi said handing her the pen.

"Oh well thank you for your help." she said filling out the receipt.

"Would you like a copy of your receipt ma'am?" Levi asked in a kindly manner trying his best to stay professional.

"I'm fine, thank you for your time and effort. I can't wait to see how beautiful this wedding is. I still can't believe my daughter met her soulmate so soon."

"I'm happy to hear ma'am, hope you have a great day. Hope you come again." Levi said waving hoping she would walk through the doors. When she finally left the shop he sighed in frustration but mostly in relief. 'I swear every time a woman comes in this shop they don't stop talking about their personal lives. Why on earth must they talk about that 'S' word I loath. The word itself is pathetic in my opinion. I mean REALLY, a fucking red string becoming attached to two people who might not know each other at all. If you are tied to someone, you are claimed to be their soulmate. I won't believe it until I see it myself. Like that'll ever happen to me, I'm not even interested in the whole concept of dating. Let alone be sucked in to the thought of having to listen to the constant babbling of a woman. I swear if they had an off bottom I would be spamming that button constantly.' As Levi was sucked away in deep thought, he was snapped out of his trance by a hand suddenly touching his shoulder. Levi slightly jumped startled. Looking back he sees his coworker, Marcus.

"Oh I'm sorry Levi, I didn't mean to scare you." Marcus said apologetically.

Levi took a deep breath as he looked back at the clock. "It's already time to close?"

"Yeah it's been a long day don't you think?" Marcus asked attempting to get more out of Levi.

Levi simply shrugged. "I don't know just like every other day." He said walking to the door while locking it. 'In my opinion the the day goes by fairly quickly, that is until customers think I want to hear about their personal lives.'

Silence filled the shop for a short time before Marcus decided he would try to crack the shell around Levi. "Sooo what are your plans for tonight?"

Levi glanced back. "I was actually thinking of staying here and getting more work done." He said hoping Marcus would leave him to finish locking up.

"All you ever do is work, why don't you ever go out and have fun for once?" Marcus asked encouragingly.

Levi rolled his eyes with his back turned so Marcus couldn't see. 'This is the same thing my uncle always says. Now this guy is lecturing me too?' "Work is what I enjoy."

"Well even the things you enjoy, need a break sometimes. I'll tell you what, my roommate and I were planning to hang out with the new hire Ethan. Why don't you come out with us? It'll be our treat, no strings attached you don't have to worry about a thing."

Levi turned the light out in the waiting room. "I'm good." He said while walking to the workshops in the back room.

"Come on dude, you have been working extra everyday it seems. How much work could be done?" He asked gesturing to the tables of workstations and laptops that were waiting for pick up. "I don't see anything else that needs fixed....Your not getting out of this."

Levi began packing up his tools. "Fine." He groaned in defeat.
