Chapter 55: The Lu's

The assistant bought a business class ticket to China at 7 pm for all of them. Jane looked at the boarding pass that the assistant handed her.

'Great, Suzy is seated together with me. Perhaps I can use that time to spoke to her...'

Jane glanced at Lu Sheng. He is like an obedient guard, that stood next to them all the time, guarding them, probably afraid that she will make a run with Suzy.

Jane forced a smile out of her rigid lips when her eyes met with Lu Sheng's intense glare. 'What, you think that I would run away?'

Lu Sheng lips twitched, in mocking, as if he could read Jane's mind. Lu Sheng ignores Jane, and he walked further to a corner. He waved his hand to his assistant, and the assistant quickly walks closer to Suzy.

'Trying to make a hostage on Suzy ha?' Jane clenched her fist as she sent a murderous glance at the assistant.

Jane stood up and she walked towards Lu Sheng directions. Jane stopped and hesitated for a moment.

Somehow, Jane always felt like Lu Sheng is terrifying like he is going to kill her in any second, even though he did nothing to her.

Jane observed Lu Sheng's behavior. He sometimes took out his phone and make phone calls, and most of the time he spoke in mandarin.

'He looks busy... Will he be mad if I try to negotiate with him?' Jane gulped and stared at Lu Sheng nervously.

Lu Sheng could sense the nervousness from Jane even when they stood far apart. Sliding his phone back in his pocket, Lu Sheng stood up from his seat and walked towards Jane.

Jane could feel her soul suddenly cowers down when Lu Sheng walked towards her. Inhaling sharply, she hurriedly stood next to Suzy and she held on to her shoulder tightly.

Lu Sheng stopped next to jane and squinted his eyes to her, "No funny business, sister. Explain to her after we have arrived." Lu Sheng whispers in Mandarin to Jane's ears. The assistant quickly follows Lu Sheng as he walked away.

Suzy is not proficient in Mandarin, even though she is half Chinese. Her family left China when she was only 5 years old. In her vague memory, she could only remember playing with some kids in a big courtyard that was full of people practicing some kind of kungfu.

Suzy squinted her eyes, hinting at her mother to explain what was going on. Suzy moved her shoulder and pushed her mother's hand away from her shoulder. Her shoulder was sore from her mother's pinching.

Ignoring Suzy's hints, Jane nodded her head obediently at Lu Sheng and replied in Mandarin "Understood."

"Good. Don't scare the kid."

Jane looked at Lu Sheng as he walked away. Jane slumped on the chair in the departure hall. She could feel cold sweat trickling down her spine.

'Did Lu Sheng just use his power on me??'

Jane's eyes turned blank as flashbacks of her memory in the past 6 months they are away from Hawaii. Thinking back on these 6 months, she lives her life like a turtle, hiding her head in her shell all the time as she quietly deals with her loss and emptiness.

She has been trying her hardest to escape reality and she tried every means to forgot the fact that she is a Lu by marrying Seth and moved out of China.

Today, Lu Sheng presence proves that her action all this while is futile. She is living freely today because her father decided to go easy on her and her family. Not because she managed to escape. No matter what, she is still a Lu.

The Lu values the direct descendants, as the Lu family's core secret teaching was only passed down to the direct descendants.

Her grandmother has secretly taught her the basics of Lu's secret technique of kungfu, but unfortunately, she did not inherit any talent to absorb the martial Qi technique at all. Thus, she is as normal as she can be without any special abilities.

A normal lady who could not absorb any martial Qi is useless to practice the Lu teachings, let alone to be the future heiress...

When her father knew that she is useless in terms of absorbing Martial Qi, her father let her out to live like a normal person and gave her education like a normal parent would. Jane further her studies and met Seth when she went to California.

Jane was happy, thinking that she has escaped from her family's gruesome mocking of being useless for not having any Martial Qi at all.

Her father has been grooming Lu Sheng alone when he knew that Jane did not have any Martial Qi in her. Who knew, that her brother would be involved in a freak accident and caused him to be unable to produce heir, and all of a sudden, Jane has to shoulder the responsibility to provide the Lu's an heir to take over the Lu Clan.

His father was devastated when he heard the news, and he summoned Jane back to China, as Jane is his only hope to give him an heir. He only has two children from his marriage with his first wife. Lu Sheng and Jane. Now that Lu Sheng is useless in giving him grandchildren, Jane is his only hope.

Jane came back to China with Seth, as both of them got married secretly in California. His father was furious when he learned the news.

Feeling enraged, Jane was sent out to live in the outer courtyard with the normal disciple of Lu Clan.

Jane lives like an exile in her hometown for almost 2 years, until she is pregnant with Mia. She wanted to be free and moved out, so, her father has set out a requirement to Seth and Jane, that they would only be able to leave China if they promised him to give their eldest child to the Lu family.

The eldest child would be the heir to the Lu Clan. Of course, the eldest child must also possess the ability to absorb Martial Qi before the child is pronounced as the future heir of Lu Clan.

Seth did not have any clue of what the heir to the Lu Clan meant. He simply thought that his eldest would inherit whatever fortune the Lu family has, and becoming the heir means his eldest child would live without worries, as she would have the Lu family inheritance backing her.

Without discussing with Jane first, Seth quickly agrees to his father in law demand.

Jane sighed. 'If only Seth knew the meaning of becoming Lu Clan's heir is...'

When Mia was born, her father was the most overjoyed among all of them. They moved out of the outer courtyard and lived in the west wing of the main courtyard.

On Mia's tenth birthday, her father took Mia away from her for about 3 months, to test the Martial Qi strength in her. Jane was heavily pregnant with Lucy when her father took Mia away.

During the 3 months, the shaman said that Mia is suitable to be a leader and there is a weak Martial Qi strength that is guarding her. Her potential would be in full bloom once she reached puberty.

Jane remembers that her father was so happy when he heard the shaman's words. Her father pampers Mia so much that he never denies any wishes from Mia.

It is unclear how Mia managed to persuade her grandfather to allow her to study in the US and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

All Jane knew was, Mia has taken an oath that she will come back to China and receive her trainings when her grandfather called her back. But fate has its planning. Mia died even before her grandfather summoned her back.

Now, the position of a young heiress is vacant.

Jane looked up at Suzy next to her.

'Is it right for me to hide Lucy, but brings you there instead?'

'Both you and Lucy have never been tested by the shaman before. So, father would have never known if both of you have any martial Qi in you guys or not...'

"Will you be mad at me, Suzy, for making you take this responsibility instead of Lucy?"

Jane played with Suzy's hair, and she did not realize that she has spoken out loud her thoughts. "I hope that you would not have any martial Qi strength in you, just like I did. So we could live a normal life together with your father and Lucy."

Suzy looked up at her mother, feeling that her mother is weird.

"..." She did not say anything and ignores her mother. She is too lazy to think anything.

As Jane was immersed in her thoughts, she felt her back went cold. She felt like someone was staring at her.

Jane suddenly jerked upwards as she saw Lu Sheng's reflection on the surface of the mirrored walls. She did not know for how long Lu Sheng has been staring at her with that weird gaze.

Jane bowed down and she grabbed Suzy's hand in instinct. Her eyes still fixed on the reflection of Lu Sheng, observing his action.

'He would not be able to do anything to us right?' Looking at her bustling surroundings, Jane exhaled loudly feeling relieved.
