Chapter 54: Going back to China

"You are here?"

Jane walked towards Lu Sheng as soon as she saw a man in a navy suit walked into the cafe. His facial features were similar to her, but Lu Sheng has a bigger build than her.

Lu Sheng paused his step and turned around. Suzy was still sulking and her hands were still crossed on her chest.

"Is this your child?" Lu Sheng asked while nudging his head over to Suzy's location.

Jane turned towards the location that Lu Sheng was pointing at. Turning her head back facing Lu Sheng, Jane pursed her lips, and she nodded.

"It has been almost 5 years since you left home. Aren't you coming back now? Father told me to pick up your daughters... He said, that you are not hiding something from him?" Lu Sheng undo one of his suit buttons, and he sat down on one of the airport benches.

"Father told me that one of the pendant glowed red and turned black, a few months back. He was anxious when he saw the black pendant. He waited for your explanation, but you never contacted him... So he sent me here." Lu Sheng looked at her sister unemotionally as he asked the sensitive question.

For the pendant to turn black, it can only mean that the owner has died. The pendant has each of the owner's blood embedded in it. Even if the necklace was not worn, as long as the owner is still breathing and living, the pendant will not change its color.

Lu Sheng knew the meaning of the black pendant, but he acts like he did not know anything. He did not even bother to offer his condolences to his sister.

Sitting on the bench asking the question straight to Jane, his acts were just like a stranger, that he is only here to perform his duty as a messenger.

Jane looked at Lu Sheng with an empty gaze. "I did not have time to contact father. I have been busy."

Lu Sheng pursed his lip and nodded. It is unclear if the nod means agreement, or he nodded just to mock the cliche busy statement.

Lu Sheng crossed his leg, and look up to the still-standing Jane in front of him. "So, the eldest heir to the family, the young mistress, is she dead?"

"Mia died almost 7 months ago... " Jane bowed her head down, hiding the grief inside her eyes.

"Then, you know the drill... you need to offer the Lu's, another heir to take over the clan." Lu Sheng nudged his thumb towards Suzy. "Is she the one you are offering? Our next clan leader?"

Jane was startled. She was completely frozen in place, not knowing what to do.

No, she did not mean for this to happen. She only brings Suzy with her on a whim, as she was rushing to meet Lu Sheng. She has completely forgotten that his father has stated that she must offer one of her daughters to be the future Lu clan's master. The future master must be available at every beck and call of the clan.

If Jane cannot fulfill the requirement, she needs to go back to China and lead the Lu clan on behalf of her father.

Jane looked at Sheng with panicky eyes, and she grabbed his hand in pleading.

"Sheng, have you heard the news? We only have 2 months left before we die, along with the earth. Why, bother, about the heir stuff, when we did not even have enough time to live? Suzy, she is too young, and she knew nothing bout clan stuff."

Lu Sheng squinted his eyes at Jane. He stood up and he released his hand from Jane's grip. "You trust the news so much that we will perish in the disaster, huh? Have you forgotten who you were? The Lu blood is in you." Lu Sheng lowers down his head and poked Jane's head with his index finger.

"Mia has escaped to be a proper heir of the Lu clan, but father forgives you, as he adores Mia very much. He let her be a nurse, fulfilling her dream, instead of becoming his heir. But now, she's gone, and father is enraged." Lu Sheng spoke in a matter of factly to Jane. There is no toleration at all in his tone.

Smiling slightly at Jane, he walked over to the puzzled Suzy and he grabbed Suzy's hand and pulled her close to his body. "Jane, you need to come back with us... Along with the new heir."

"Heir? What heir?" Suzy stares at her mother and her newfound uncle, with her wide round eyes.

Lu Sheng dragged Suzy to Jane side and he extended his hand. "Passport?"

Jane looked at her daughter sympathetically. Jane mouthed 'I am sorry, I will talk to you later' to her daughter. With a shaking hand, Jane rummaged through her backpack.

Without wasting any second, the bodyguard beside Lu Sheng grabbed the backpack and overturned the content, searching for their passports.

"It's here, Sir." With a polite hand, the bodyguard bowed and proceed with buying the plane tickets for the mother-daughter pair.

"Mom, where are we going? Back to China?" Suzy eyes widen and she smiled with a squinted eyebrows.

"Yes, your grandpa misses you. Don't you miss him too?" Jane hesitantly asked Suzy.

Jane's eyes quiver as she stares at Lu Sheng. His brother has become distant and cold towards her as soon as he practiced the Lu Clan's teaching.

She did not have much idea about what exactly the teaching the Lu Clan provided, but she is sure that whatever it is, it is not something good.

Whenever Lu Sheng approaches her, she can feel a murderous aura, and cold air surrounding them.

Suzy stares at her mother is surprised. "What, we are going now? Without Dad and Lucy?!"

Jane was startled when Suzy raised her voice against her. Several passersby turned and looked at them.

"No, they can't come with us. But, soon they will join us too." Jane lied to Suzy.

"Mom, you are weird. You know about the selection today don't you? We are supposed to go to space, not to China..."

Jane breathes hard and she pats her daughter's head. "I will tell you everything in a bit. Just act like you are willing to go with me for a while, please. At least, until we arrive in China... I promise I will tell you everything."

Jane is scared of Lu Sheng and her father. No one knows how strict her father can be, other than her. Sheng is her brother, and for her to escape the responsibility to manages Lu Clan's business, she has to pay a lot of price to obtain her freedom. She has to promise to her father that her firstborn would be the heir, then only her father allowed her to migrate with her husband, Seth.

It can also be said, thanks to Mia that she can escape her father's shackle...
