Chapter 100: Volume 2: Dear Dad

I'd waited weeks for the opportunity to sneak the letter into the mail. We were so rarely out of the house, and I couldn't go out alone, separate from the others. I had to walk around with it in my pocket for ten days before I got to be the one who went to the supermarket. And just as we walked in, Nathaniel said he needed the bathroom. I told him I'd stay outside in the sun until he was ready. He didn't suspect a thing. It only took a few seconds to walk to the mailbox and slip it in while he was out of sight. I was back to the spot where he'd left me minutes before he returned. 

I wondered how long it would take to reach my father. 

I wondered if he'd believe me?

Dad,

I'm so sorry. I know you must have been so worried. I'm safe. If you believe nothing else I write here, believe that. I'm safe. And I want to be here.
