Chapter 143: Friends Close, Enemies Closer

I bit my lip and scanned the kitchen again, but no one was around. After listening to make sure there were no footsteps or voices approaching, I darted across the floor and I picked the keys up, wincing when they jangled sliding across the counter. I froze in place, but the house was still silent. No one but the guards were awake at this time. 

The guards. I'd forgotten about them.

So what now? If I had keys to the car in my hand, and Chase had left just ahead of me, would they even question me? 

Should I go? I asked the Light. Should I do it?
