Zach stood in the long line to the entrance of Johnny's Place with his best friends and band mates Jim, Jordon and Eddie. They were all still processing what the fuck had just happened and getting to the somewhat small restaurant had been no problem but finding a parking spot and getting in was.
"Anyone else still confused on what the fuck happened this morning ?" Eddie asked as they stood in line. Eddie was tan with black hair and his eyebrow studs glinted in the light. He was the drummer of their band.
"Honestly these woman are confusing but I'm hungry. " Jim shrugged his shaggy brown hair was a mess and he was a crumpy morning person. He was the lead singer of the band.
"Bro does it really matter? No freak outs, no lets see each other again and we get breakfast. I call this a fucking win. " Jordan laughed as their hostess showed them to their booth in the corner . Jordan was the other guitarist besides Zach and Jim's twin brother. Though Zach was the screamer for their screamo band and back up vocals.
"It's just weird. " Zach decided that the group of women they had woken up to were just damn confusing. Not to mention looking around he could spot all four of them at work already in the back talking amongst themselves and other workers.
"It's like a dream come true and I ain't gonna complain. " Eddie added as they looked over their menus.
"Aint that the one who you woke up with?" and they all looked as the brunette who he just realized that he couldn't remember her name and that he actually felt guilty that he didn't. Shit what the fuck was her name.
"Hello my name's Ryain and I'll be your server today. Can I start you out with some drinks?" she asked with a flirty smile and a wink at him. Granted she was being professional as she was working but she was flirtatious with all the customers. It was part of the job to get good tips.
"Ryan?" Eddie asked looking at her name tag and she laughed.
"pronounced Rain darling but spelt with a "y" as a silent letter. My mother wanted to name me Rain but my god sister got the same name so she spelt it differently. Now there's two of use named Rain and Ryain."
"Why did you get the same name?" Zach asked curious.
"Because my mother and god father were engaged before it was broken off and they meet their respective partners and had both liked the name but each wanted to spell it differently. Some how they all remained friends and its pretty weird. " she stood as though she explained this to everyone who asked. And he was sure she did.
"That's just unusual. " he laughed and she grinned at him.
"Coffee and waters to go around then?" she smiled sweetly and they all agreed. It was only after she had walked out of sight did he realize she had made up their drink order for them. Shit she was good at the job.
She came back with four coffee cups looped through her fingers a coffee pot in one hand and a bowl of creamer in the other with a sugar caddie balanced on her wrist. It was an impressive balancing act. She some how managed to set all four cups on the table and fill them up while simultaneously setting down the creamer and sugar without missing a beat. When all cups were filled with coffee she set the pot down and smiling held out her little booklet and pen and spoke still smiling.
"So what will it be for you guys tonight?" she clicked her pen and it hovered iver her notepad.
Seemingly impressed they told her what they wanted and she wrote it all down smiling and giggling at anything that his band mates said. He watched as she was stopped by other tables as she left and noticed that what she did was a facade for the other tables. Her smile was permanently there at all times and she never showed how tire she was. But he did notice how how she and the other servers and even the busser and hostess would all drop their voices and whisper to one another as they worked.
It was the first time he ever noticed how the employees of the restaurant all worked together and how they all communicated sometimes silently to one another. He was amazed at how the hostess would look over the restaurant and catch the eye of one of the servers who would tell them with a slight nod or shake of the head if they had a table open.
How once the customers were seated a server showed up mere minutes later ready to take their drink orders before coming back to the table with the drinks in a time that allowed the customers to look over the menu. Then take the order while also remaining present to their other tables and all the while cashing out their tables. Once customers left their tables a busser came out and cleaned up the table after handing the server their tip and then it all happened again.
It was a well practiced rotation and hr noticed that they all carried the plates of hot steaming food on their arms and not trays. Like when she came and handed their food she did it holding five plates on her arms and without dropping a thing had set them up with water cups as well. He sat and talked with his friends as they talked about the next town over that they were playing a show in at some bar.
They were a small up and coming band and were playing still small scale events but it was a start and they were getting paid. They had a manager they found in California who set them up and so here they were traveling the states. It was the best damn thing they ever did and living out of the van wasn't too bad as their manager found them hotels most nights.
When she handed them each their own bill he found that she left him her number and a note telling him that she was more than happy to be just friends. He laughed as the guys hooted and hollered at him. He never did remember that he gave her his number the night before. Nor did he put her number in his phone for that matter. He had no intention of ever going back to the small town or seeing her again. One night was one night.
