Chapter 63: 63
As your two companions strain to drag themselves into the back, you up the pressure on the soldiers, firing a volley of shots to keep them pinned down. And one of your shots hits home: it thuds into the chest of a soldier who was still struggling to his feet after being knocked over by the blast. He collapses to the ground, bleeding out under the searing sun.
Esme and Abdul are both in the back seat now, each clutching their own firearm and facing backward.
"They're still on us," yells Abdul over the roar of the truck.
You follow his gaze. The tall man is screaming orders at the soldiers, who are piling into the last functioning truck.
"Get ready," says Esme, clutching her pistol tight. "Take them out however you can!"
