Chapter 16: Mom, I'm Sorry!
The road to Hailwic town proper was very smooth and Elvira enjoyed the scenery, she saw many interesting flowers and animals that she had never seen before and did not even exist on the Earth that she knew. She kept asking questions of what's this and what's that at Roza and Erna befitting the behavior of a seven-year-old. Roza and Erna took turns in patiently answering all of Elvira's questions while smiling at her glowing silver eyes, they really felt Elvira became much livelier today compared to being stuck inside the mansion.
When they arrived at the Town entrance, Elvira saw a lot of people coming and going, and it became even more bustling as they proceed towards the inner part of the town. There are lots of shops and stalls everywhere, it is like a festival except there are no festivals right now.
Roza fixed Elvira's cloak and asked Elvira in a solemn voice. "Miss, you have to stay close to us and the guard okay? Only one guard will be accompanying us but there are other guards hidden but to be safe do not stray too far."
Elvira nodded her head. She had no plans to attract trouble and does not want to worry Roza and Erna seeing that they have been sincere in taking care of her and her well-being.
They went out of the carriage and walked around, Elvira saw lots of stalls with foods that she does not recognize but looks scrumptious. She walked to one stall and looked towards Roza. Roza understood that her Miss wants to try the colorful bread in front of her. "Can you give me some Prieya." Roza paid the vendor 5 Eris coins.
Elvira learned before that Eris is the currency used in Andeolus, 5 Eris coins is already a huge amount but she had instructed Roza and Erna to pay with tips whenever she buys. She knew how hard it is to work for a living and since she is excessively rich in this world, might as well use it excessively too. The vendor saw and exclaimed. "It's only 2 Eris, Miss." He tried to return the three eris coins but Roza smiled and said "Our Miss is rather delighted by your Prieya and would like to give you something extra for your hard work."
The vendor is shocked but since it has been said to be given and not a mistake she accepted it gratefully. "Thank You, Miss! Here have some extra Prieya!" She gave them another bundle of Prieya. Elvira took some prieya and started nibbling, she is surprised that the colorful bread tasted like castella cake. It is delicious!
They continued to walk around and she bought more food than trinkets and she is planning to share it all with the people in the mansion. They went to lots of places and she is getting a bit tired when she saw something that caught her attention. She saw a woman walking on the opposite street, she froze and stared, it looked very much like Mother Li before she realized it she was already running towards the opposite side while she burst into tears. "Mom! Mom!" She yelled.
She followed the woman who looked like her mother, she took advantage of her small height to slip through the bustling crowd. Roza and Erna are shocked at their Miss outburst and quickly lost sight of her. Even the guard who quickly followed Elvira soon lost her in the crowd.
While they were in a panic, Elvira also lost sight of the woman who looked like her mother in her original world, she ran faster and looked around. She cried harder, she never knew how much she missed her mother until today, she ran until she lost all her energy and just broke into a sob. Even if they always argue, she really loved her family, especially her mother. "Mom wuuu... Mom... I'm sorry!" She closed her eyes imagining her mother's face, it seems that she is starting to forget how her mom looks like, it's like it's been years since she saw her mother last.
If there is one thing she regrets before dying, it was she was not able to reconcile with her mother, they parted after an argument and now she could no longer apologize for the harsh words she said to her mom. She can only utter words of apology in her heart but she knows it would never reach her mother's ears.
She wonders what she must have felt upon news of her death, it was something she is not ready to face and is avoiding thinking, she does not wish to make her mother feel guilty about her death nor feel anguished, it was her selfishness that let her made that decision, it was her that was fed up with life. She never wanted her mother to feel sad but it became the price of the freedom she sought.
She crouched down and hugged her knees and cried in one corner of the town, nobody bothered her as she cried as if she is a lost child waiting for her mother to find her. Soon she hiccupped and dried her tears thinking Mom will be fine, she will get over it, that stupid brother of mine will be there for her, and sis will also help them, they'll get over it. Elvira repeated to herself over and over again as if to hypnotize herself that everything will be fine on her world and the Li Ran's family will be fine even without her.
After composing herself, she looked around, Oh no! I lost Roza and Erna! They should be quite worried, I should hurry and find them! She quickly stood up but her legs are a bit numb with her crouching, she stood there and waited for the blood circulation on her legs to return to normal. Then she started walking in order to look for Roza and Erna.
She had not gotten far when a hand with a cloth suddenly stretched and covered her mouth and nose and not a moment later, before she could even struggle, darkness already swallowed her consciousness.
