Miss… Miss!…were here!"
"Ugh." I don't know how long it took for me to wake the hell up. All I knew was that I didn't want to wake up. Still feeling the effects of my very own "sinful" actions.
Well, those chosen words were from Wendy herself as she had decided to berate me since we started off our carriage ride. I still wanted to curse this damn world for the callous way they treated women.
Just because I stayed up and got shitfaced. Which wasn't at all what a proper young, bred woman should behave like. To hell with it all.
Though I felt bad for Wendy…she has yet to really deal with me and my shenanigans.
Well, the ones I was scheming.
I tried to look at her through my eyelashes, noting that she was already aware of my ruse.
Her glare letting me know she had had enough.
"I see you want to continue to behave shameless. Hmph!"
Playing possum wasn't going to continue to help me.
Rolling my eyes and brushing my hair off my face. I sat up and looked across my seat.
Darn it.
"Okay…okay," I grumbled. Making note that I had to behave from this point now. Wendy was my only saving grace, she was crucial to my survival.
There was no way in hell someone could have as much patience as Wendy had shown for me this long.
Looking away from her I looked out the carriages window.
Stunned at what I saw.
Holy crap!
The colorful scenery reminded that I indeed had been transported to some Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole. Tall decorative shrubs and trees too pristine, that they looked like something out of the realm of reality.
This world was truly beyond my own imagination. That's how I knew I wasn't hallucinating or dreaming. Views like the one I was just witnessing, put me in dumbstruck awe.
Even more so as it still hadn't hit me that technically it was partly mines.
Well, my families.
Whoa…
When I had been kicked out, well it was phrased "sent away for own good".
I hadn't grasp how rich Priscilla was. Survival was my priority. Looking back at how I had landed on my ass, and I had to get on my feet as fast as possible. Even my interaction with my parents was rushed, but the way they looked at me told me enough to see where I stood.
Breathing was more essential than money at that moment.
"It is a beautiful Miss…but can you please not press your face upon the window like that." Wendy complained.
Oops.
I pulled back and noted the oil marks all over the window. I needed to fix my skincare routine.
Wendy, always ready, took out a handkerchief. A glare on her brows as she wiped the window.
"I get it." I leaned back crossing my arms in front of me.
"Listen Miss, if you keep up with this behavior, you're going to be sent back to the countryside. Do you want that?"
"Of course not, Wendy. What he…" I shut my mouth, changing my tune. "I will make sure to keep myself in check and will not touch a single ounce of liquor with in the confounds of this household." Eyeing the looming mansion.
Turning back and seeing her face.
She didn't believe me…
I wouldn't either because even I knew I was lying.
"Aw come on Wendy," I whined, ready to defend myself only to freeze from Wendy outburst.
"How dare they!" Wendy seethe.
Pissed off Wendy sure was scary as shit. Watching her eyes turn to slit shooting daggers at something outside the window.
Not knowing what the problem was as the carriage came to a complete stop.
Wendy had hurdled her way out the doors, surprising me as I followed behind. Not getting why she was upset.
Seeing just a lone man in uniform standing on top of the steps. Making me question why Wendy seemed disgruntled. Piecing together to what was going on.
Noting the man's unwelcoming posture.
Interesting.
For some reason this didn't bother me, quite the opposite. As I stepped down the carriage steps. I felt the corner of my lips curl, looking up at the large looming mansion windows.
The shadow of a silhouette appearing and fading away with the glare of the sun.
I suppose it was time. Tilting my chin up and putting my best rbf. I looked at the attendee who seemed a bit too brave for who he was about to face.
I lifted my skirt and walked up one step above from where he stood. Seeing the clear disdain from the corner of his eyes.
Making me feel disgust and almost riling me up.
Almost.
If I acknowledged his clear disrespect now, I could hang myself up to dry.
Neither could I ignore him since he was standing outside waiting for us.
No…
He wasn't waiting for us. No one had been here waiting for us. Now hearing in the distance, the gates open.
Prefect.
I turned around, looking down at the young man who still seemed to think he could dismiss me.
"Hey you." I said, irritation mearing his face, only turning to me slightly.
"Yes?" Oh…
"What's your name?" I asked, he jaw clenching and flash of something crossing his face. Suspicion in his eyes.
Pressing his lips he searched my face. Only seeing the vagueness, I wanted him to see. After half a minute and the incoming carriage sounding closer, he must have realized that he couldn't whole-heartly dismissed my request knowing his time was limited.
"Cristo." His sharp tone trying to cut at me.
That alone was going to make the next several minutes even sweeter.
"Nice to meet you Cristo." My words coated in syrup, extending my lightly gloved hand in his direction. His eyes widen but he didn't change the painted revulsion on his face.
"Oh," I raised my voice, sounding discourage. Wendy, my unknowingly supporter, followed this up with a remark to his manners. Relenting, he roughly grasps my hand in his… Shaking it quickly and jerking it away. Only to look confused as I held on. Allowing him do all the work as I fell with gravity.
In his direction.
His face draining of color, turning into realization and dread as he heard the shouts and gasps coming in chorus from behind him.
"Priscilla!"
"Miss!"
"Cilla!"
Like the performer I have always been, it was time for the first act. I shall call this act "horror". Just like my audiences faces.
