Chapter 37: Powers of Charm
A child that was born not out of love, but of ambition. Ernest Prost-Hall's ambition, to be exact.
He always made it very clear to me that I was but an object for him to transcend the human limits that were placed upon him and his kingdom.
Out of the many smaller human kingdoms of the continent, Marude was perhaps the strongest and the most prosperous… though that didn't mean anything, because they could never defeat a nation that had magic.
When I say, "smaller human kingdoms," I'm not including Loen. No, Loen has magic. This is not a legend, but the truth.
The Loen royal family's magic and the blessings placed upon them are the main reasons why it's able to prosper and stay strong when facing powerful enemies that, in logic, should've been able to destroy Loen easily with their powers.
Though, I suppose I don't actually know if my words are the truth or not, as this is all information told to me by the king of Marude and was also top secret.
It was actually surprising, the way that he was so talkative and relaxed around me, blatantly showing off his true thoughts without holding anything back as if he was sure that I would never betray him.
In the comforts of a small cell of a bedroom that I was locked in, he visited me frequently, coming with new ideas on how to birth magic within pure humans and how to conquer the lands of his dreams.
You see, the king was a lunatic who was driven crazy by the limitations that life and luck placed upon him, and he wanted to break free no matter what the cost.
Well, I suspect that this was just a mask.
He is instead perhaps a lunatic who was bored of the lavish lifestyle he led and was always seeking something to amuse… and all that talk of trying to break free of limitations? Lies.
Nevertheless, it was apparent that his true thoughts were hidden behind layers of masks and disguise, with the top layer being the face of foolishness and content, wasting his days away in his harem, allowing his land to slowly degenerate into a pile of trash.
But believe me, this man wasn't a fool.
No, all of this was done for something big, for an experiment that would surely succeed.
An experiment that would make him clap and laugh sincerely with delight.
To ready for this, he sent all of his illegitimate children on missions all over the continent, including me.
But you see, he miscalculated something. Something crucial.
Which was the fact that I was no ordinary child.
In fact, I was very abnormal.
Something I've never told him was that… his little experiment with my mother had succeeded.
I had inherited something. I had inherited powers, and I was also able to strengthen those powers through various means.
Powers of charm.
