Chapter 69: Chapter Sixty-Nine

Rong You saw her ink-like face and realized he had phrased what he meant wrong.

"What this old man meant is that you are too straightforward of a person. When fighting or thinking, you rely heavily on instincts rather than thinking critically."

Rong You repositioned the pieces on the board while he talked.

"Now watch this old man play and learn. Remember instincts aren't bad, but it won't get you through every fight. The world of cultivation is deceiving, therefore you have to start thinking beyond your instincts."

With that, Rong You started to play the chess board again.

Meng grew interested as she watched his swift movements across the board. Even though, the game was filled with restrictions that Meng could not bring herself to like it was impossible to deny that it was interesting.

All she had to do was imagine that the king was Feng Qi on her side and suddenly the game made perfect sense.

An entire new visual of the game appeared in her head as she intently watched the game play.

Rong You felt proud of himself for finally teaching Meng something other than books. Deciding it was time to end the game, Rong You trapped to opposite side of his playing field.

"Check mate. Now do you-"

Rong You looked up happily to meet his disciple's icy glare. He choked on his words.

Meng, with careful movements, moved back the piece that put the white king on her side in checkmate.

"If you aren't good enough to protect him leave."

Three dark lines appeared on Rong You's bald forehead; however, he didn't say anything.

He was already used to his disciple being eccentric, therefore he decided to just get up and leave allowing Meng to monopolize his chess table.

At least he got her to pay attention to it.

"Practice playing chess while you get used to your physical body. It should pass the time." Rong you gave out an order to save some of his dignity as he left Meng to her own devices.

....

A month passed quickly inside of the library.

Rong You and Meng didn't play chess together again, however the entire time during the week Meng was messing around with the chess board.

The image of Meng playing chess was absolute serene at the moment as her black hair lightly curled around her body and her dark brown eyes stayed eerily concentrated on the game.

Her small head resting softly against the knuckle of her hand as she examined the pieces on the board. Every movement was elegant and practiced as if the wooden parts of the game were dancing.

When she finished off the other side of the board. A slight smile would grow on her lips before she rearranged the board again. So far the black side had lost about a thousand times. The favoritism was extreme.

To be clear Meng played both sides to her full ability, however she couldn't bring herself to ever finish off the white side. With an accidental thought she had handicapped herself.

She absolutely loved the white king.
