Chapter 10: The Un-Eaten Skeleton

The two of them reached the stairs.

They saw that the iron gate leading to the third floor was open.

There was an extremely foul smell coming from it.

The smell was exactly the same as the corpse water dripping from the ceiling above their room!

It was the smell of animal decay!

Liu couldn't stand the smell, so he covered his nose and mouth, his brows furrowed.

He endured the urge to vomit and followed Ning up to the third floor.

Once they reached the third floor, the smell of rotting flesh became even stronger, so much so that Liu couldn't control himself.

His stomach cramped, and he finally vomited on the floor!

  "Ugh—"

  Liu dry-heaved, his face pale.

  Ning patted his back.

After vomiting up his dinner, Liu felt a little better.

The two of them walked along the dark corridor.

  The floor was very sticky.

Liu's face was pale as a ghost.

Although there was no light, he could still guess what was on the floor…

  It was… corpse water!

This stuff covered the entire third floor!

  Both of them were shocked.

How many corpses had to rot and decompose to release enough corpse water to cover an entire floor?

  "As expected…"

  Ning narrowed his eyes.

Although he also found the smell in the air extremely disgusting, he didn't feel like vomiting.

As for the situation on the third floor, he had already guessed it more or less before they came in.

Stepping on the sticky, disgusting corpse water, the two finally reached a room with a particularly strong smell of decay, slowly opened the door, and the scene they saw shocked them both!

This terrifying scene would surely stay with them forever…

They saw that in the room bathed in moonlight, countless rotting corpses were placed in a dense arrangement!

Among these corpses, there were some that were relatively fresh, still bloody and fleshy, and there were others that had long since rotted into a pile of bones, only skeletons and hair remained!

But without exception, they all preserved their almost intact heads, the faces of the corpses that hadn't fully rotted yet were hung with eerie smiles, looking at the two at the doorway, as if wellcoming them…

  Thump—

Liu covered his mouth, took a step back in fear, his body trembling.

He looked at the other rooms, seemed to understand something, and used his trembling hands to open the other doors.

  "Holy shit…!"

  Liu almost cried out.

  Sure enough.

Every room was piled high with rotting corpses!

The internal organs of these corpses were all gone, their flesh was also covered with fork marks, indicating that something had feasted on them!

Wang and Yamo's bodies were also among them!

Liu's legs were weak, he leaned against the wall and slowly squatted down, his face paler than the moonlight.

  "So…"

"The corpse water on the ceiling of our room… came from here…"

"But where did all these corpses come from?"

  "Could it be…"

Ning looked through the window at the distant black villa complex.

"I'm afraid… all the original residents of this villa complex are in these rooms."

Liu swallowed, his forehead covered in cold sweat.

This thing hiding on the third floor of the villa… had eaten all the people in the entire villa complex?

"I guess we're not the first caretakers to come here. There are so many rooms set up downstairs, and they even have separate bathrooms. They must have been prepared for the caretakers who came to take care of the old people in the villa…"

Every word Ning said made Liu's heart jump!

  "Bro… let's go back quickly…"

"What if it comes back, aren't we…"

Liu started to back down, but Ning had no intention of leaving.

"We're very close to the truth…"

  "Big beard…"

"Aren't you curious what exactly that thing is that ate all the original residents of the villa complex?"

Hearing Ning's words, Liu was startled at first, then his mouth twitched.

"No, Brother, I've discovered that you are truly fearless…"

"Is the truth… more important than life?"

  Ning asked back:

"Can you leave this floor, can you leave the villa, leave the villa complex?"

"Who knows what other rules it has for killing?"

"Maybe we triggered its killing rules from the moment we entered the villa, but we were lucky and it wasn't our turn yet…"

"And it's already gone downstairs to hunt, it might be feasting right next door to us… As more people die, we'll only become more and more in danger!"

  Liu's face was changing color.

Finally, he gritted his teeth and said:

  "Okay!"

  "I'll trust you this once!"

They passed by these rooms and reached the innermost room.

  It was a study.

There were no bloodstains at the door, it was clean as if it didn't belong to this floor.

The two of them looked at each other, their eyes lit up.

  "This must be it!"

With a pounding heart, they pushed open the door, and a strong smell of dust rushed towards them.

Looking at the furnishings, it seemed to be a study.

It wasn't big or small, there was also a skeleton inside, which had been decaying for a long time.

Judging from the size and details of the skeleton, it was a girl of about 14 or 15 years old.

In the skeleton's hands, it was holding a teddy bear.

The teddy bear's eyes were black and seemed to be examining them.

Ning walked up to the skeleton, checked it, and said:

  "… This person wasn't eaten."

"There are no fork marks on her ribs, breastbone, or throat bone."

He had checked the bodies of Wang and Yamo earlier, and although their internal organs and some muscle tissue had been eaten, there were also many fork marks on their bones.

But there were none on this skeleton.

  "Not eaten?"

  "Then how did she die?"

  Liu's doubts deepened.

Ning examined the body for a long time.

"It's most likely she died of starvation or dehydration."

"That thing outside shouldn't be able to get into this room, but she couldn't get out either, she was trapped here… no water, no food, most people would die in three or five days."

"Look, this window is nailed with steel bars. There is heavy rust on the steel bars, unlike the ones in the old woman's room on the second floor, indicating that these steel bars were nailed up a long time ago. It's likely that at some point, her family was afraid that she would climb out of the window. After all, this is the third floor, so they nailed up her window."

"But at that time, her family probably didn't expect that these steel bars would be… what cut off her last hope of escape!"

Liu listened to Ning's words, and a cold chill spread through his heart.

He could imagine the despair of this skeleton before it died.

There was a terrifying man-eating monster outside, and there was no other way to leave the room, so she could only be trapped to death here in despair!

"Hey, Bro, look, behind that corpse's butt… there seems to be something!"
