Chapter 20: Chapter 19
"W-What?" I ask, blinking my focus away and trying to contain my anxiety, only for him to close the door behind him and approach with smooth paced steps.
"What are you doing there so happily?" He asks once more, pointing at my phone with his chin, which makes me oh in response.
"I'm just writing in my blog."
"Blog? What's that?"
"Yeah!" I answer while sitting up. "Is like a journal of sorts online, and I write about the supernatural, sometimes about its creatures, other times about stories and encounters, all there is to talk about them!" He smiles at me, and there is something dazzling in the way he does that while looking at me that stuns me for a few seconds.
"Is that so? Are you that fascinated about us?"
"Well, yeah, kind of, more curious than fascinated I supposed." Though I could not talk about the nostalgic feeling it gave me too, being in a place like this surrounded by creatures that seemed like long lost friends.
"Can I read it?" He asks and I'm taken back by the interest, having to ask him once more to repeat himself. "Read it, can I?"
"W-Well, I'm sure that is nothing new for you here, but if you really want to… these ones are just drafts yet, there must be a lot of misspellings too, so…" I say, hesitating in giving him the phone with a text that was sure to have some mistakes yet, but eager to find out what he thought of it, so in the end I let him read.
His eyes scan the letters quickly, but not quickly enough to lift my anxiety down as my heart races in expectation of knowing what he thinks about it.
"…Then?" I cannot help but ask after a moment.
"Talking about Dhapirs I see, if you want I can always ask my butler Blake for an interview you know?"
An.
Interview?!
Why have I not thought of it until now?
"You can?! Would you really do that? That would be awesome!" I start blabbering in excitement, sitting up towards the edge of the bed and wanting to jump in anticipation, my mind running miles while coming up with many questions to make already, on why did he choose this life? How did he turn? Is that polite to ask? How is it serving a vampire?
So many questions! So much to know!
I'm taken back by my wild running thoughts when Lucien tries to hide a chuckle, and when my gaze lands on him and at his glimmering eyes I swallow dry and am taken by surprise at the increasing heating up sensation that spreads through my body.
"W-What is so funny?"
He chuckles once more and stops hiding his mouth when he says: "Sorry, is just that you look so happy that is a delight to see, is very cute."
That makes me blush on the spot.
"T-thanks I guess…" I blurb out, looking away the moment his gaze deepens.
And yet he gives a dry cough to call my attention back again, but I only glance quickly at his side while trying to make the heat on my cheeks go away, silly body, stop acting up like this!
He thankfully ignores my reaction that I'm sure his keen senses must have caught up and started chatting with me about Dhapirs and how a vampire should only have one or two at a time as to not weaken the vampire by drying them out nor weaken the bond between the Dhapir and the creator by giving them less blood and making them more mortal than not, which could cost their immortal service from them.
"But why do they choose to be a Dhapir? Is it not easier to be a vampire and have to serve no one?" He smiles at that, eager to share as he says:
"That's where you are mistaken, vampires serve their masters too for a very long time, and some are forced into doing so, at least in the past, but Dhapirs only exist by serving strong vampires, and as such are stronger too, plus they have both benefits of a human and a vampire and can eat food and walk on the daytime normally."
"Oh, I see." Liking food as I do as well I can understand the part of wanting to have a more diverse meal than only blood for all eternity.
After this little chat, however, Lucien suddenly becomes serious and looks at me for a very long time, his thoughts a mystery behind a poker face before saying:
"I'm… sorry that I did not talk to you about the mate thing, I thought it would be too much for you to bear all at once and was waiting for the right time to tell you… and in the end that almost made everything worst. I should have explained to you why staying put was so important and not simply imposed that on you, and I'm sorry for that."
Receiving such an honest apology makes me lose my ground and not know how to answer, so I stumble on my words and clumsily try to calm the vampire in front of me down.
"N-no way, I'm the one who should be apologizing, I went out without knowing anything and put you in a spot like that, I could get you scolded by the Vampire Lord and I know that that is very important to you and-" I stop talking when I see that his face is frozen in a surprised shocked expression, and passing my hand over his face I'm left to wonder if he is showing off a neat trick of pretending to be stone dead as vampire could have of if he had truly shot down.
"Uhm… hello?"
"Oh, sorry, can you repeat that for me?"
"Oh, sure, is just that I don't want you to be punished for not protecting me or anything, I know now just why the Vampire Lord had such a role of protecting me on you, and why you took it so seriously before, and-"
"You, are you serious?" He says, which makes me even more confused and taken back.
"Excuse me?"
"You… you haven't understood it yet have you?" I only stare back at him, blinking my eyes in confusion and making him finally say: "This has dragged out for too long already, fuck, you know what? Better yet."
I watch him talk on and on with himself, catching glimpses of his words but not understanding a thing, only to suddenly be caught by surprise when the sexy vampire leans forward in bed and, as I was already on the edge of it while talking with him he has easy access to me and, while putting his hands on the sheets by my side to support himself while his face bends closer to me, he finally says:
"I'm your mate your goddamnit dummy!"
And before I can even protest his lips smack with mine.
