Chapter 11: A Royal Encounter
One day, while Li Xue and Lanfen were exploring a particularly vibrant coral reef, they were discovered by a group of mermaid guards patrolling the area. The guards, clad in ornate armor and carrying pearl-tipped spears, approached the pair cautiously.
"Halt!" one of the guards commanded, his deep voice echoing through the water. "State your names and your business in the Mermaid Kingdom."
Li Xue glanced at Lanfen, who gave her a reassuring nod. "My name is Li Xue, and this is my friend Lanfen. We mean no harm. We're just exploring the area and learning about the mermaid world."
The guard eyed her suspiciously. "You're not from around here, are you?"
"No, I'm not," Li Xue admitted, her voice wavering slightly. "I come from a different world, and I've only recently arrived here."
The guards exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of curiosity and concern. After a moment, the lead guard spoke again. "Very well. You will come with us to the palace. Emperor Shen will want to meet you."
Li Xue and Lanfen exchanged worried glances but decided it would be best to comply with the guards' request. They followed the patrol through a series of winding underwater passages, eventually arriving at the grand entrance to the Mermaid Kingdom's palace.
The palace was a stunning feat of architecture, its walls made of exquisite mother-of-pearl that shimmered in the dappled sunlight filtering through the water. The guards led Li Xue and Lanfen through the ornate gates, where they were greeted by a group of elegantly dressed courtiers.
As they were escorted into the throne room, Li Xue couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the majestic scene before her. The room was bathed in a soft, ethereal light, and the walls were adorned with intricate murals depicting scenes from mermaid history. At the center of the room, seated on a magnificent throne made of coral and precious gems, was Emperor Shen.
