Larry's eyes gazed into the past, his voice filled with nostalgia. "It started with my brothers, Barry and Gary, and me, when we were just kids. Our father, Dan, the High Lord Mayor at the time, taught us the family's sword style, Shinsei. I was what they called a prodigy, picking up the techniques with ease, surpassing my brothers long before they could keep up."
He chuckled, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "I didn't take training seriously, I was too talented, too cocky. I'd slack off most of the time, relying on my natural ability to get by. My brothers would get frustrated, but Father...he used to get mad at me a lot but he said I had a gift."
Ace leaned in, fascinated by the story. "What happened next, uncle ?"
Larry's expression turned serious, his eyes clouding over. "As we grew older, our training intensified. Father had us learn not just swordplay but also aura, diplomacy, and leadership. He prepared us to take on the responsibilities of the High Lord Mayor's office. But I...I had other plans."
Kai's eyes narrowed, sensing a turning point in the story. "What plans, Larry?"
Larry's voice dropped to a whisper. "I wanted to forge my own path, make my own name. I didn't want to be bound by family duty or legacy. And that decision...that decision changed everything."
Larry's voice grew more intense, his eyes flashing with memories. "I was getting into heated arguments with my dad about becoming the High Lord Mayor. I didn't want that life, but my father couldn't understand why. Gary, my other brother, wasn't interested either - he was too busy swimming and enjoying life. So, the only option was Barry, the youngest, but he was too eager to please.
"I started acting out, bullying others, beating people up. My father knew he couldn't stop me, so he asked his friends, the Garcias, for help. Pedro, his name was, and he brought his three kids - Diego, Abel, and Olivia. My dad and Pedro set up a match between me and Diego, who was also considered a prodigy at the time."
Larry snorted, a hint of arrogance in his tone. "I started mocking Diego, saying he wasn't on my level. But he just smiled and said, 'Let's have a good match.' I flicked him off, and we started fighting. I used my Shinsei style, my speed, but he deflected my blade and knocked it off my hand. I was surprised, angry...and he just asked me, 'You done?'"
Larry's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched. "I said, 'Hell no, let's go!' But Diego...he just smiled again and said, 'You're not ready for me yet, Larry.' And with that, he walked away, leaving me seething with anger and shame."
Larry's eyes blazed with anger. "You scared? Running away?"
Diego sighed. "This is pointless. You won't be able to land a attack, but I guess I'll prove it to you."
The fight resumed, Larry striking with all his might, but Diego dodged and parried each blow with ease. Larry's attacks grew more frantic, more desperate, but Diego remained calm, his movements fluid and precise.
Finally, Larry stumbled back, exhausted, his sword trembling in his hand. Diego stood over him, his sword raised, but not striking.
"You...you're a monster," Larry panted, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Diego smiled. "Good match." And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving Larry on the floor, stunned and defeated.
Larry's mind reeled. He, the prodigy, had been humbled. He realized, with a jolt of fear, that he was no match for Diego's skill.
