Xander had finished whatever work he had early and had gone back to the quarters. He had skipped his usual stroll in the woods or haunting for preys in the bed trap forest.
Getting to the quarters, he couldn't hear the regular heartbeat that he had been trying to get accustomed to since yesterday.
He could hear only the heartbeat of two supernaturals in the quarters.
A deep frown appeared on his face as he already knew the girl wasn't in the quarters and had gone out with one of the supernaturals.
He went up the stairs and went to Leon's room first.
He opened the door of the room and was greeted by emptiness. A wave of relieve washed over him as he trusted Leon to take care of the human than the other two who were probably locked up somewhere in the quarters trying to avoid running into him.
Downstairs, he took a sitting position on the couch as he wondered where Leon had taken the girl.
He was certain they had gone to the city because the girl seemed to enthusiastic to go to the city this morning and it happens that Leon had decided to help her.
After some minutes he heard the click of the front door open and what followed was light footsteps which had entered the quarters and the sound of regular heartbeats.
*****
Anna's mouth was left agape staring at Xander. It was only when Leon entered the sitting room did she regain her composure.
"Why did you leave the quarters?" came Xander's question with a cold expression on his face. His question directed at Anna.
"To order food" came her unwavering answer "Is there a problem?" She added trying to control her beating heart.
Anna was shocked because she was going to get scolded but she remembered she wasn't a child and also not a prisoner in this place and she decided to act normal like she hadn't done anything.
She tried hard to steady her beating heart as she didn't want Xander to know she was affected.
"You should rest, the walk from the city to the supernaturals' territory must have been long" Xander's next words surprised Anna but she didn't wait a second more before she scurried out of there to her room.
Xander stood up from the couch as his gaze moved to Leon who hadn't said anything. Xander's gaze didn't stay on Leon for more than two seconds as he began to walk to the kitchen as Leon trailed behind him.
"Are you done with today's work?" Leon asked
Xander opened the fridge and took out a container with food stored in it and answered "I hope by tomorrow I'd be done"
Leon who had taken a position at the door asked "Any update on the rouge supernaturals?"
Xander didn't look up at Leon as he continued with what he was doing. "They are working on a cure and searching for the culprit " Xander answered.
Xander had been very busy for the past week because of the rouge supernaturals who had killed some humans who had gone camping.
It was a surprise when they found the rouge supernaturals because it has been centuries ago when rouge supernaturals became extinct and they had established supernaturals' colleges to make sure to educate supernaturals on how to use and control their powers and not to hurt innocent humans.
They had to cover up the death of the family that had gone camping because it is surely going to be disastrous if humans found out the existence of other creatures.
"You should have asked me to help you warm the food" Leon walked to where xander stood as he was heating the food Leon had preserved for him.
"I can do it myself" came Xander's sharp words as Leon stretched his hands to take over from what Xander was doing.
Leon retracted his outstretched hands and couldn't help but smile at Xander.
If it were to be anyone else the person would have found it offensive but Leon who was already used to Xander and his moods just found it amusing.
It wasn't like Xander couldn't do it himself, heating food was nothing to xander as he was also a good cook as well but didn't indulge himself because he hated people eating whatever he prepared, not because it didn't taste good but he didn't just like it.
Xander's blue gaze looked up at Leon "Where exactly did you go?"
Knowing that Xander wanted to know what exactly they had done today didn't hesitate to share their day's event and also Anna's best friend's short visit.
"Do you think it is okay for the girl to be around her?" Leon understood Xander was taking about Georgia.
He answered, "She has a good vibe and definitely likes good looking men" Leon said remembering how the girl's gaze were fixed on him almost the entire time they were together.
"Why are smiling like that?" Xander's words were sharp but teasing. Leon quickly understood what Xander meant.
"She isn't even my type" Leon declared immediately as he glared at Xander subtly.
"Pardon me. I totally forgot witches are your type" Xander teased Leon with his lips twisted into a small smile.
"Come on, Xander!" Leon who wasn't enjoying the topic they had moved to creased his eyebrow.
Leon had dated two witches in the past and none of the relationships had ended up well. So, he had decided not to date any one else after the second witch ended their relationship.
Xander who had already finished heating his food served his food before he heard Leon speak. "I don't even dare to be with a human and you know the reason too well" Xander who had already finished heating his food served his food in a plate.
"Did you meet Trisha?" Leon asked
"Worried about her?" Xander questioned him back.
Leon glanced at his wristwatch and saw it was almost time for dinner. "She never fails to let you know about her displeasure when she doesn't like something"
"It would be nice to have some peace and quiet during weekends. What do you think?" Xander's words made Leon chuckle.
"Sounds great" Leon answered and chuckled again.
Leon who had gone to the kitchen before entering the sitting room had dropped the packed food in the kitchen. He decided to heat the food because he knew the food would be cold already.
"I don't know if I would be busy tomorrow but make sure the girl gets back safely"
Xander who had already began to eat, resting on the counter as he continued to chew on his food.
"There's absolutely nothing for her to do here..." Leon started "Why don't you let her eat lunch with her friends tomorrow?"
Xander who was concentrating solemnly on the food he was eating raised his eyes to look at Leon, a little bit of displeasure in them.
Seeing displeasure written all over Xander's face, he quickly spoke. "Just for a few hours, I'll be there with her"
Xander sighed and stood up straight and tucked his hands into his trouser pockets.
"The rule is to stay here for two days and stay in the city for five days" Xander's words were calm.
"Just a few hours" Leon muttered
Xander frowned more as he thought the girl had told Leon to ask him "Did she tell you to ask me?"
"No" Leon was quick to reply " I overheard her talking to her friend about it and decided to ask you" Leon lied
The truth was the girl wanted him to ask Xander but he had told her to ask him instead but when he saw an opportunity to bring up the subject he decided to grasp it.
Xander was good at catching lies but Leon was good at lying and concealing his feelings when he was around him.
Leon was about to bring more light into the topic so that Xander will see more reasons to give his permission.
"I'll consider it if she asks me herself" Leon was a little stunned that Xander had agreed without much begging or much use of words which made him smile.
Leon was about to thank him." Don't thank me I didn't agree because I saw reason in anything you said"
Xander glanced at his food and was making his way out of the kitchen when he stopped then turned.
"I'm going to the garden, tell her to meet me there" Leon nodded his head thinking that was all when he heard Xander's warning. "Don't tell her anything"
And he left.
