After a good night’s sleep, I stretch and climb out of bed before deciding to take a shower and then grab something to eat. Yesterday didn’t work out with the coroner, so I called him and said I would be there this morning at 10:15. Scanning the room for any gifts from “her”, I see that the motel room attendant left me a towel and a bar of soap per requested.
Pleased by this, I grab them and take a long hot shower before going down to the diner and eating a meal of scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage with a cup of black coffee to go. After filling my stomach, I stand up and pay my bill before heading to the coroner’s office in the basement of the hospital. The minute I walk in the front door of the lobby, the air is thicker, and I notice that the walls are stark white everywhere I look.
When I walk up to the check in, a security guard glares at me and then asks sternly, “What are you here for sir?”
