Chapter 20: ...For Life in Prison
"Hey, if you're with all these lives then why did you let yourself lose control of your abilities and kill an innocent man?" Pao-Lin said to her.
"That's just it. These lives are stressful. And he wasn't innocent. Do your research. I found these files and on top was one on the innocent guy I killed. He was convicted of rape, assault, as well as trespassing on government property via hacking. Therefore, I did what Twisted did… granted I was very drained after it happening that I believed up to this point that he was an innocent man. Those files brewed in my brain until I finally realized that I did something right… well in vigilante terms, not hero terms" she gave a nervous laugh.
Barnaby sighed and glared at her. He yanked the cuffs off of her. "You're free to go. I see no flaws in your testimony, but I do not forgive you for hiding all of this from us. Especially those who I believe to be your friends"
"…It's called a secret for a reason, Barnaby…" she sighed.
The rabbit turned on his heel and left the room, leaving the others to do what they wanted. Kotetsu walked to her and handed her pills and a sandwich. "Here"
Ivan came up behind him with a small mocha. "Please eat and take the medicine."
After the remaining heroes talked with her for the past hour they left for her to be asleep in the room from the effects of the pills. She slept peacefully as something unthinkable went on.
The heroes were drinking and eating when suddenly they all passed out. All of them were brought to an abandoned building where they were all shoved into different cells where they became at bay from their own abilities.
Hours passed as the heroes were struggling to get free, all of them finally getting a chance to call for help. During this time Maria had finally awakened, not liking the fact that she was out for so long. Just what was in the medicine she took?
She looked around as she heard a sound. It took a few minutes for her brain to register that the sound was her call watch. She answered it and rubbed her eye, yawning. "What is it…?"
"Help us! We're all trapped in some building!" It was Pao-Lin and Karina speaking, well more like yelling, to her.
She sat up quickly and growled slightly. "Is everyone alright?"
"From what I can tell, yes" Karina was shaking, her voice quivering with her body.
"Please come find us… We don't know how long we can last in these small rooms…"
"Alright" she sighed as she made her way out of the bed, "but it will take a while. I'm still injured and I need to see what all is going on. Is that fine with everyone?"
The two girls conversed quickly with each other and responded "Yes, it's fine. Please though… Hurry up as fast as you can!"
"You know me… I can hurry up, injured or not. You're family and I plan to do my best to save you all from whoever did this"
With that, they hung up on each other and she took a breath punching the wall, everything on her turning pink. "It's about damn time you woke up"
The pale man looked at her, chuckling. "Yuri?"
"I'm coming with you. I want to help, plus it's the least I can do after traumatizing you, Maria"
She smiled as she watched him change to Lunatic. "Let's go save our heroes and give their captor a judgment worth fighting for"
The two nodded at each other and ran out to the rooftops to head towards the abandoned buildings. The only reason behind Yuri being with her was because she was injured and he really didn't want her to pass out and fail at saving her friends… no… her family.
