Chapter 31: The Only Shot

"You always said you were ready to face death, Alex," Sarah's voice trembled as she pressed her back against the cold wall. "But now that it's staring us in the face... are you?"

Alex stood silent for a moment, gripping the Voidblade tighter, the chill of the blade grounding them. Shadows swirled in every corner of the study, the whispers growing louder. The creatures weren't playing anymore. They were coming.

"I don't know," Alex finally admitted, the words slipping out in a whisper. Their heart raced with the weight of the truth. "But I don't have a choice, do I? We don't have a choice."

Sarah's eyes were wide with fear, but beneath it, there was something else—resolve. "Then let's make sure we don't go down without a fight."
