When word of the french  defeat reached the French court, King Charles summoned the nobles to a hall in the Florentine palace. The room where he had erupted in rage the day before had been thoroughly cleaned to remove any traces of what had occurred. 

Charles did not want to show any signs of his rage, and he wanted to present a composed and calm front to the nobles, projecting strength and control to his subjects. The king was aware that appearances mattered, and he wanted to ensure that no one questioned his authority or fitness for the throne.
