Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Betrayal
Jake was still on cloud nine after reconnecting with Emily. But as he arrived back at the headquarters, he was greeted by a somber atmosphere. The team was gathered around a television, watching the news.
Jake approached them, noticing that they all looked angry and upset. "What's going on?"
Mia turned to him, her expression grim. "The government has done something terrible. They've betrayed us."
Jake's eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean?"
Mia gestured to the television, where a news anchor was reporting on a recent scandal. It had been revealed that the Korean government had been secretly experimenting on civilians with superhuman abilities, using them as test subjects for dangerous and potentially deadly procedures.
Jake felt his blood boil with anger as he watched the footage of innocent people being taken against their will, their powers being stripped away from them. He couldn't believe that his own government could do something so despicable.
"How could they do this?" he growled, clenching his fists in frustration.
Mia shook her head sadly. "Money, power, control. They'll do anything to get it."
Jake knew that Mia was right. He had always been aware of the corruption in the government, but he had never realized the extent of it until now.
As he thought about the innocent people who had been harmed by the government's actions, he realized that he couldn't just stand by and do nothing. He had a unique ability - one that he could use to fight back.
He turned to the rest of the team, determination in his eyes. "We need to do something about this. We can't let the government get away with this."
