Chapter 16: chapter 17 the Video
Jake felt a pit in his stomach as he looked at the screen in front of him. The video feed showed a member of their team, one they trusted completely, meeting with a group of people they recognized as the enemies they had fought against before.
He couldn't believe it. How could someone they had worked alongside and fought alongside with be working with the very people they had been fighting against?
Jake and the rest of the team had been in the middle of planning their next move when they received the video feed. They had to stop and address this betrayal before they could proceed any further.
Jake called a team meeting, and they all gathered around the screen to watch the video. The atmosphere was tense as they watched their teammate exchange information with the enemy.
Once the video was over, there was a moment of silence. Then, anger erupted in the room.
"How could they do this to us?" one member shouted.
"I trusted them with my life!" another added.
Jake tried to remain calm, but he felt a sense of hurt and betrayal. They had all trusted this person, and now they had to question everything they had ever known about them.
But they had to act fast. They couldn't let this betrayal go unpunished. They knew that the enemy now had information about their plans, and they had to assume that they were one step ahead of them.
Jake and the team quickly came up with a plan. They would confront their teammate and get answers. They needed to know if this betrayal was an isolated incident or if there were others working against them.
The next day, they called a meeting with the traitor. They confronted them with the video and demanded an explanation.
At first, their teammate denied everything. But as they continued to press, the truth finally came out.
Their teammate had been offered a deal they couldn't refuse. The enemy had promised them protection and resources if they would work for them. They had taken the deal, thinking that it would benefit not only themselves but also the team.
Jake and the team were furious. They couldn't believe that someone would betray them for personal gain.
But they also knew that they had to be strategic. They couldn't risk their plans being compromised any further. They made the difficult decision to cut ties with their former teammate and keep a closer eye on the rest of their allies.
As the meeting ended, Jake felt a sense of disappointment and loss. He knew that they had lost a valuable member of their team, but he also knew that they had to keep moving forward. The fight against corruption and injustice didn't end with one betrayal. There was still much work to be done.
But he also couldn't shake the feeling of distrust. If one of their own could betray them, who else could be working against them in secret?
