Chapter 17: 17. Sloane

I watched as Ver disappeared from view the Lunar eclipse wolves pushing through the trees and away from my brother. I growled at them angry at them and myself. I was also angry at Ver I know he saw what I wanted. He knew that I would rather die then hand Kan over and he ignored it. He agreed to hand her over. How could he do that? I'm prepared to give my life for hers. I couldn't let them do this I had to get away before he had a chance to exchange Kan for my life.

My eyes took in everything, I had to remember where we were going if I had any chance of escaping them. I watched their movements waiting for my chance. They took me deeper into the forest the trees becoming denser making it hard for them to surround me. Just as there was a gap in their ranks I dug my feet in, but before I could make a break for it something hit me hard in the side knocking the wind from my lungs.

"Ah ah ah little wolf I'll have none of that."

I lay there attempting to suck air back into my lungs. Driak stood above me his evil smile plastered on his lips.

"Try that again and I'll cut off a limp."

I growled at him as he grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and roughly pushed me forwards. I followed them my strength getting low as my lungs still struggled to get air. We walked for miles and were deep into the forest when finally we passed what could only be wards similar to the ones around the cabin in Asheville. That's when I realised how Driak had found Kan even though it was a red eye pack safe house. It's was because this too was a red eye safe house. This was how they had evaded us all these years. They were using our own safe houses protected with wards for their own use. It was genius I couldn't deny that. Their were so many safe houses spread out all over America that even I didn't know where they all were. But how did they get the information to find them all? And how did they get passed the wards? The wards were set up that only red eye pack members could enter. There was only a few in our pack that had the power to allow non pack members in. me being one of them.

I was sure that this was only one of the cabins they were using and not their home base since there was no way they would allow me to live if I knew where they called home. The cabin here was much the same as the one Kan was using in Asheville but with one addition no doubt meant for just this occasion. In the ground before the cabin they had dug a pit deep enough that even in human form no one could climb out. It was here that Driak paused and without warning he pushed me in. It took all of my power to not break a leg upon landing at the bottom. Instead I landed on my side as I slammed into the ground.

Jumping back to my feet I snarled up at him which only made him laugh.

"Sit tight little wolf in two days you'll be home, Raine will be where she belongs and all will be good in the world once more."

Raine? Was that Kans real name? I stopped growling I'll deal with that later for now I had to find a way out of here. Driak posted two guards on the pit while he no doubt went inside the cabin. The two wolves above circled the pit never taking their eyes off me. I growled in frustration as I looked around trying to find I way out. All sides of the pit were smooth with no foot holds and no incline whatsoever and with the wolves above even if I managed to get out of the pit I'd still have to take them out without making a sound.

As it stood right now it was impossible. I huffed out a breath. It had taken the rest of the day to get here. I was tired and hungry unless they gave me food my strength was only going to get worse. Lying down I watched and waited. If I was going to escape it had to be tonight while I still had some strength left. Hopefully the two on watch would fall asleep. I knew my chances were slim but i still had hope. Surely they would slip up at some point.

To my dismay during the night the two watching me were replaced by another two. My hopes of escape disappearing with them. By midnight I was too tired to stay awake my eyes closing despite fighting to stay awake. Before I knew it I was asleep.

I woke the next morning to something wet trickling down on me. The smell of urine permeating the air jumping up I growled at the male who had been peeing on me. Him and his two friends laughed at my snarls.

"Nothing like a golden shower to wake you up eh?"

I jumped up at him furious which only made them laugh harder.

"Now now show our guess some respect. He is the future alpha of the red eye pack after all."

Driak came into view smiling down at me.

"Sorry about my less then favourable pack members they act more animal then human but they have their uses."

I bared my teeth at him as he called to another wolf who handed him a bucket.

"Here let me wash that off."

He tipped the contents of the bucket over me, thankfully it was water as I shook my fur out. I met his gold flecked eyes once more as he held up a pair of pants sitting down on the side of the pit one leg dangling just out of reach.

"Why don't you shift so we can have a chat?"

I growled at him I had no desire to chat with this psycho. His smile faded when I didn't comply his eyes glowing his voice full of alpha dominance.

"I said shift."

I felt the weight of his alpha voice Rain down on me. I fought it with all I had. I could feel him adding more pressure onto it but after awhile the weight shattered. I howled into the air my triumph over his will making him growl.

"You think you've won little wolf? Don't be so sure There is more to me then meets the eye."

Lifting his hand he waved it in the air and before I could stop it my body shifted on its own making me human once more. I growled just as the pair of pants hit me in the face.

"Now that's better."

Not taking my eyes off him I put the pants on. Just because he had succeeded in making me shift didn't mean I was willing to talk. Though I was curious to know how he was using magic since that's the only explanation to how he made me shift.

Staring down at me he rested a hand on his knee seeming as relaxed as some one taking a walk in the park. Almost like this was an every day thing for him though considering who I was talking to guess it wasn't far from the truth.

"So Sloane i feel that while I have you it might be the perfect opportunity to have a chat about the future."

What the fuck was this guy talking about? He continued his voice infuriatingly annoying like we were merely chitchatting as old friends and not like his wolves had just urinated on me.

"You see I'm tired of this cat and mouse game our packs have been playing. It's terribly annoying, why with the constant moves and always watching our backs. After ten years it really wears down a pack. So it's my hope that we can come to an agreement."

Despite my vow to stay silent I couldn't help myself from answering.

"Well then maybe you shouldn't have started something you couldn't finish."

His smile widened at my words as he nodded.

"You are right there but I do have to correct you on that since it was not me who started anything. You see it was my father who started the war, it was also my father that killed your parents."

At the mention of my parents a growl rumbled inside my chest my fists clenching. He ignored me as he went on like he hadn't been interrupted.

"I was so young at the time This all started I had no say in the matter. I didn't understand at first what my father had done and once I did what could I do but go along with it. Wouldn't you have done the same if your father was still alive? However as the years rolled on one death after another both our packs taking damage I knew I had to do something before our pack was wiped out just like the silver moon pack. So Even though it hurt me to do so I killed the only family I had left. I killed my own father in hopes that with him gone I could bring this fued to an end."

He waited for a reaction that I refused to give. Did he really expect me to believe that he killed his own father to broker a peace between us?

"You have doubts. It's fine I don't expect you to believe me at my word. Though I would ask this. Have the lunar wolves not been quiet these past few months? Did you not think why that may be?"

I shook my head.

"How is that proof?"

He chuckled.

"Yes your are right it is but a small thing to be sure but how else am I to show that I mean what I say."

The way this guy spoke was so out dated it was like he was from another time. I laughed bitterly at what he did say though.

"Well one way would be not threatening my life and taking me captive."

He nodded.

"Point taken. But tell me little wolf if I had simply walked up to your door step and requested Raine back would you have done it?"

I scoffed.

"Of course not."

"Well there you have it. If I had not done what i did neither you or your brother would have listened to a word I said. You would kill me on sight unless You had a reason not to."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Did he really expect me to believe all of this? Even if it was true and he was trying to make peace why would he attack Kan in Asheville? With what she told me he didn't even give her a choice attacking her right off the bat. For someone who wanted peace he had a funny way of showing it.

"If you truly want peace then tell me why you want Kandra so much? Shouldn't it be her choice whether she wants to go with you?"

He dropped his other leg over the side of the pit.

"Fair question. You see Kandras real name is Raine and she is not who you think she is. Sure without her memories she's the sweat Kandra who has a heart of gold but she is far more dangerous then you realise. Her true nature the one I know would sooner kill you in seconds just because you stood before her. Raine was my prisoner, she escaped four years ago while we were under attack by your brother. I bet even he doesn't know how close he came to killing us all. I attacked her first because I thought the rumours of her memory loss was just a ruse to solidify her cover. Turns out it was real, but make no mistake if she ever regains her memory she will revert back to being Raine. If that happens and she has not been imprisoned none of your pack will be safe."

Surprising me he jumped into the pit to stand before me.

"I ask that you help me bring her in before that can happen. Even if you don't believe my desire for peace at least believe me when I say Raine is the most dangerous wolf to walk this earth. She has killed more sups then either of our packs combined. If she is not locked up the entire supernatural world will be in danger."

Lies all of it was lies I growled my hand growing into claws. I wouldn't listen to any more of his lies. He didn't move as I swung my claws aiming for his face however instead of hiting him i was stopped halfway by an invisible barrier.

His smile only infuriated me more as a gust of wind formed bellow his feet lifting him back up to the top of the pit.

"I know you don't believe me now but you will. You keep records do you not?"

I didn't answer refusing to play his game any more. He chuckled at my silence.

"Look up the name Raine valdier and when you do you will know I speak the truth."

He disappeared as two wolves returned resuming their watch of me. Suddenly exhausted I slumped to the ground reeling from everything he had said. I wanted so much to believe it was all lies but I was too tired my mind was playing tricks on me. I couldn't tell what was real and what was lies. I didn't know what to believe. Didn't know who to trust. What if he was right? I shook my head no I know Kan she could never kill anyone. But she had no memories who she is now might not be who she was. I buried my head in my hands I was so confused. I don't know what to do. I didn't ask for any of this all I wanted to do was keep my friend safe.

I need to find out the truth no matter what even if Kan had been this Raine that wasn't her now. I growled even if I look up Raine in the records and it turns out not to be Kan it will already be too late because by tomorrow she will be in Driaks hands and there would be no saving her. He was too powerful. How could I trust his word? He very clearly smelt like a wolf but the fact that he uses magic tells me he was more then just wolf. A hybrid maybe? Hybrids were rare usually when sups mixed species they were either born one or the other but every one in a million they were born with both parents powers. So what did that make Driak? Part wolf for sure. The other half had to be part witch.

I was Mentally drained I had been mulling this over for most of the day. The sun had already set and I was still no closer to any real answers. Soon my exhaustion got the better of me my eyes closing once again. The darkness closing in as I fell asleep ending day two of my captivity.
