Chapter 9: Academy days (1)
The academy stood tall, the building was grand it had large walls which encircled many facilities made to protect those of the outside from those of the inside. Along its walls were small pieces of vine which were strewn across the walls decorating it showing off its longevity and how long the institute had been around for.
Infront of said academy stood two young teenagers, Sunless and a Tall girl with short shoulder length white hair which seemed to hug her shoulders with elegance. They stood infront of the gate the boy with a look of great admiration on his face and the girl with a look of scorn for the place, as if she had expected it to be greater than it is.
Soon after the gates flew open with a loud creak and the two began toward the main hall, in which they would recieve the welcome ceremony. Since it was the evening they would also recieve food when they arrive, the two began to stride into the hall with confidence.
The sound of footsteps resounded throughout the halls as the two began their way to the main hall, sunny kept throwing small glances at the tall girl taking in her expressionless face as they continued to walk. The girl however had little to no expression on her face, as if she had no emotion to begin with.
Eventually they arrived at the main hall and had entered along with few sleepers who were waiting outside, On the way in they were greeted with the stares of the few whom had already entered. Sunny found his way to a small table where no one was sat and began to think to himself.
'So mister your name is alan right?'
"No, any more silly questions." Alan spoke with a hint of annoyance.
He wasnt annoyed at sunny but rather the person who had decided to take a seat infront of the man, it was a girl who had long blonde hair and a petite body with an extremely charming face but from the look in her eyes one could immediately tell that she was blind. The blind girl was Cassia, the same Cassia who had betrayed sunless and made him a slave earl on in the novel.
Alan however did not want this to happen again as it would mean that he would also become nephis's slave because he is in sunless's body, he cant he wouldnt let it happen for the sake of sunny and for himself.
'Jeez so rude man, anyway why are you mad i dont see any reason to be' Sunny thought to himslef in a contemplative matter, what could have gotten him so mad.
"Its nothing" Alan replied, it obviously wasnt nothing but due to his flaw he was unable to tell sunless the truth therefore he wouldnt be of much help to him as of now until he gets weavers mask that is!.
'Ok if you say so, not that i believe that.' Sunny thought.
The two sat in silence until a large man came into the hall, he was a middle aged man of around 40 years of age. He had muscles which where incredibly defined more so than any human should be able to accomplish, it was clear that he wqas atleast an awakened maybe not an ascended because he didnt exude the same kind of aura as Maste Jet did.
The man cleared his throat and began to speak,
"Hello everyone, my name is Awakened Rock!. Here in this acadmey you will learn all it takes to survive in the dream realm be it combat lessons, or those to do with wilderness survival you will learn it all within the short time you are here at the academy. Now lets talk dream realm!, most of you will not survive there. Im not gonna sugar coat it the dream realm is dangerous and mostly unexplored, however here at the acedemy as i have said you will be taught how to survive to better your chances of survival, so long as your not thrown into a deathzone that is. Then you would have to pray you reach a citadel easily."
Sunny stared in shock at the mans bluntness, but he was right not many would survive in the dream realm not alone that is so sunny should make some trustworthy friends to have in the dream realm.
"Your gonna make a fool of yourself arent you" Alan whispered in his mind, hesitant to say it to see if his flaw would stop it, however it would seem that suggestions arent technically telling the truth so he can say those truthfully.
'Huh no, i was but no not anymore now you said it!!' Sunny replied to him mentally, ofcourse normally in the novel he wouldve gone around gloating about himself and ended up being made a fool of so that others wouldnt pry into his power and so that he could tell the truth while others thought of it as a lie.
"Okay, i suggest you tell the interviewer about your divine aspect but not your true name as it is kinda your curse" Alan suggested, this was the only way alan could see Sunny being able to tell them some stuff without revealing his weaknesess.
'I see it makes loads of sense' sunny thought making a mental image of himself slapping his fist on his palm with a wide open mouth. A sign he understood.
After Rock had completed his speech the food came and Sunny was no stranger when it came to going all out on his food, he stacked the plate high with delicacy's he had never seen before. Back in the outskirts all they had to eat was synthepaste a gruelly substance with almost no flavour and a horrible texture, so it was safe to say Sunny enjoyed the food he had gathered.
After they had finished eating it was time for the interviews, Sunny was worried since his flaw would make him tell the truth no matter what but Alan had assured him that since their flaws contrast so greatly the effects of them had been reduced significantly, which had eased any nerve Sunny was feeling before hand.
He began his way toward the interview room and took a seat in the waiting area, a while passed and nothing happened until he heard his name being called over the loudspeaker which was the indication for him to enter into the interview room.
Standing up sunny patted down his trousers to de crease them and headed toward the room taking small but proud steps. when he got to the door he turned the handle until it made a small click and enetered.
The room was of a relatively decent size, It was rather bland though. In it stood a table with a chair behind it with piles of paperwork ontop and infront of the desk sat a slightly less comfortable chair which was obviously meant for the interviewee's.
Sunny took a seat infront of the desk and an interviewer came out of a closet holding a stack of paper work, she noticed sunny gave him a quick nod and placed the paperwork down. She began her way toward sunny before eventually diverying her couse and sitting onto the comfortable chair behind the desk.
"Okay.. sunless" she said as she was checking the paper infront of her to make sure she got his name correct.
"First id like to ask you by law if you would like to recieve any counselling as we know that the nightmare can be very detrimental to a young teenagers health." she asked following the standard protocal.
Sunny adamantly denied this offer as he had done with Jet, he did not feel he needed counselling. since his nightmare was so 'easy'.
"Okay thats fine, then can you tell me about your first nightmare." she said before bringing in a girl, her aspect was that she could detect lies and that was very helpfull during the interviews so as to make sure the students werent lying and so that they could be ranked accordingly,
"I dont mind at all!, Okay so first i killed a dormant beast which was the spawn of an awakened tyrant, oh yeah killed that too." Sunny spoke proudly while the interviewer looked at the girl to see if he was telling the truth, the girl simply nodded to implicate he was not lying leaving the interviewer stunned for a brief moment.
"Okay anything else happen?" she asked with curiosity.
"Yes i unfortunately had to kill an awakened human and 3 dormant humans because they posed a threat to me." Sunny added, this was all the truth which was only clarified further as the girl stood to the side began to nod her head.
"Wow, and what is your Aspect and your flaw if you dont mind me asking?" she added trying to prod more information out of him. To which he replied.
"I can tell you my aspect rank but not my flaw for i fear what you may do with the information" sunny added.
"Thats fine...." the interviewer added before scribbling something down on the piece of paper in front of her.
"Okay so my aspect rank is divine.." sunny looked toward the girl who was stood to the side who nodded in confirmation that he was in fact telling the truth. " And it allows me to control shadows" Sunny added, hoping to spark a reaction out of the girl next to him. I did not work.
Instead she simply just confirmed that he was infact telling the truth.
'Boring' Sunny mentally remarked, to which Alan slightly snickered.
"Okay is there anything else?" the interviewer asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I dont feel safe telling you so as it is detrimental to me so i wont tell you, and if thats all may i go now?" Sunny questioned a confused look on his face.
"Thats okay, and just one last question. Did you recieve any memories in your nightmare?" she added.
"Yes 'I' recieved a memory, it is an armour type of the 5th tier. now may i go?" sunny added seemingly frustrated from all the questions, he had never really been a social butterfly so he didnt feel exactly happy tp have to talk to someone for so long.
"Yes thats is all, you may go." The interviewer said calmly, following this Sunny stood and quickly made his way to the door twisting until he heard a click and excited the room.
Sunny was tired, after all of the questioning he just wanted to sleep his social battery had seemigly run out. So he resided himself in his dorm after taking so long to find it, seriously this place is like a maze its too big!.
Sunny entered his dorm and took a seat on the edge of his bed, yes an actual bed!. he was ecstatic, back in the outskirts he never had a bed to call his own so he slept on the rubbish out in the streets or in what was left of his tiny settlement where he and his mum had lived before she eventually passed away.
'Im tired as fuck' sunny mentally projected, expecting a response.
which he didnt get, it would seem that Alan had fallen 'Asleep' so sunny simply went to bed himself.
