Chapter 21: Chapter 20: A Haze Of Arrow Fire

The Forrest Edge, The Eastern Province, Outskirts Of The Town Of Carran...

The Dark Ranger known as Kedon Wilderwood had not bothered with scouting the area and making a note of the territory for the sake of advantages, as he had known that no matter how many bandits had been inside the hideout, he'd end them all with his bare hands if need be. Kedon moved rather swiftly, grabbing one of the unsuspecting louts by surprise when he'd come out of their hiding spot to empty his bladder. A quick grab from the shadows caught the bandit off guard and the subsequent snapping of his neck had seen the would-be guard dying long before he'd managed a look at Kedon from amid the shadows of his hiding place. The event had been nothing to Kedon, as he'd been prone to doing away with the filth of this caliber since the rangers from his youth had trained him.

Kedon continued his movements deeper into the so-called bandit camp not at all phased by the potential to be ambushed as he'd been more than capable of handling himself. He took it upon himself to take out a few more of the so-called guards then marched himself into the very heart of the established camp snapping the necks of the unsuspecting men as their bodies dropped and their fellow men in arms had become alerted and responded with sheer hostility.

Kedon relished in their combined hatred of him as it only succeded in making them all emotional and sloppy as they attacked him one by one in a vain effort to avenge their fallen brothers. Not that he needed an advantage over them, he smirked and rushed a few of the weapon-bound brutes doing to them what they had longed to do to him as he seized their sword arms and impaled their weaker bodies onto their own blades or slit their collective throats as body after body fell to the ground and the dirt had been stained with their unleashed blood.

The crackling sound of the flames from the fire in the center of their camp had been quite pleasant as Kedon moved through their ranks felling weak-hearted fool after weak-hearted fool until none remained aside from their so-called leader and a few loyal soldiers all stationed in their makeshift command center inside the nearby cave.

Kedon smirked as he wiped the splattered remnants of blood from the now dead bandits from his face and sniffed the air tasting the savored victory on the wind briefly before heading toward the entrance of the cave determined to come out with the bandit leader's head dripping with blood from his latest conquest back into town. He could already taste the spicy nectar the town was infamous for brewing as he entered the cave intent on finishing what he started and quite gleeful about it in the process.

KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

The Interior Of The Bandit Cave, The Forrest Edge, The Eastern Province, Outskirts Of The Town Of Carran...

As expected the cave had been quite wide and vastly deep as Kedon made his way inside once more salivating over the prospect of getting the bandit leader's head and severing it from their body once all had been said and done. He had not been too keen on the darkness, but he was more than prepared for it and any sort of ambush, which he had no doubt would have been their last stand before their inevitable end, that came along.

Kedon had only been a third of the way inside when a bright burning arrow lit ablaze had whizzed passed him and he caught it in mid-air. He arched a brow at the skill of the bandit archer and smirked as he broke it and dropped the remaining portion onto the ground inadvertently providing more of a light source by way of the uninhibited flame.

Another whizzing sound passed near him followed by another and another. He'd managed to duck and dodge them only to find himself standing before a haze of firey arrows all aimed in his direction, courtesy of whoever had remained among the bandits that he had not slaughtered out front.

Kedon seemed to relish this challenge as he smirked and snarled before allowing his body to relax and the inevitable popping of his muscles and elongation of his extremities had taken place. They had managed to pique his interest and as a result, they had the respective privilege of being privy to his monstrous form as his body shifted in the wake of his dormant fury and the familiar ebony-colored fur began to take hold amid the snarling and the terrified remainder of the bandits unleashed fire arrow after fire arrow only for them to have little to no effect on the massive wolfish brute who had finished his shifting and snarled as he charged at them ripping the nearest of them into shreds as a razor-sharp claw dug into the flesh of one of the bandits and the screams filled the cave loud and pain-stricken.

Music to Kedon's ears even in beast from as he set about devouring and slicing through the remainder of the bandits guzzling down their blood and chomping down on their mutilated corpses. More screams of terror had filled the bandits as they attempted in vain to put up a valiant resistance, a feat that was to no avail considering that the beast had blocked the only exit and had no intention of allowing any one of them to live.

Before long only the bandit leader remained trembling in his boots at the sight of the magnificent black-furred beast that snarled and glared rather murderously in his direction splattered with blood and casually gnawing on the bones of a few of the other dead subordinates that had given their lives of their leader involuntarily of course.

A mad dash with a steel blade in tow and a swipe of a vicious claw saw the black beast pouncing on the bandit leader and ripping his head clean off his shoulders before his dash had ever been completed. The armor-clad body continued a few paces before succumbing to the reality of being headless and dead following the last exchange between Kedon's raging beast form and the terrified bandit leader who had at last gotten a taste of the horrors he inflicted upon others and his just rewards for said terror.

After reverting from his bloodlust following a few rounds of gorging on corpses, Kedon Wilderwood stepped out of the cave dirty and splattered with blood from his fallen enemies with their collective heads all bound by cinder vine and dangling as if they had been fashioned into a necklace. He slung them over his shoulder and made his way back toward the bustling town of Carran with a rather shocked but highly impressed and pregnant Lena and a relieved yet still quite timid Tumbris trailing behind him.
