Chapter 11: Bad Memories

"Welcome to the adventurer's guild. How may I help you?"

Will glanced around the Adventurer's Guild in a calm manner. Held up by a series of square pillars with four candles on every side, the candle lit building casted a warm glow on everything under its roof. Although there were windows revealing the morning sunrise outside, if Will sat down at a table and closed his eyes, he might've immediately fallen asleep.

Another thing was that the guild was relatively empty. Unlike the rowdy and noisy Adventurer's guild in the Water Capital, this one was relatively empty and void of boisterous laughter. However, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing as Will actually enjoyed the quiet mood of the guild. It was almost similar to a library, one of the few places he truly enjoyed spending time in back at the castle.

Will turned his attention back towards the Receptionist who had greeted him. She was a well endowed girl with pink lips and brown hair. Her eyes were warm and calm, giving off the aura of a likable and easy going person. However, Will didn't put down his guard after seeing her pretty face and warm smile. Will gave the receptionist a small smile from under his mask. "Do you have an escort quest or anything of the sort that is heading towards or the general direction of Genesis City?"

The receptionist placed a finger on her chin. "I am not sure, would you like for me to check?"

"Yes."

"Understood."

Will waited for a moment as the Receptionist took out her phone and started scrolling around. After a few minutes, the receptionist placed her phone back in her pocket before giving Will a warm smile. "It seems that later today there will be a carriage that will need an extra pair of hands for menial tasks. They are not necessarily heading towards Genesis City but will head in the general direction. They will provide a carriage for you to travel on. Do you wish to accept?"

Will nodded.

"Perfect," smiled the receptionist. "The carriage will arrive a little bit after mid day. Please prepare accordingly by then. Do you have a preregistered identity with the Adventurers guild?"

Will shook his head.

"Would you like to register then? Having an preregistered identity with the Adventurers guild provides a multitude of benefits such as a guaranteed admission to most cities, access to a detailed information bank that correlates with your Adventurer rank, and no processing fee when selling materials directly to the Adventurers Guild or affiliated parties and many other benefits."

"How is the registration process performed?" Asked Will with an indifferent voice.

"We do a simple phone scan and make sure you aren't a criminal. Of course, your identity will remain anonymous and your combat skill average will be obtained. No other information will be acquired. After you are confirmed to be clean, we will provide a Guild ID with your preferred name and Adventurer rank."

"All right then, I wish to register as a water spiritualist."

The receptionist let gave Will a wide smile before taking out a weird black box. "Absolutely wonderful. Please place your phone on the scanner and wait a few seconds."

Will summoned his phone and placed it on the black box and waited for a while. Seeing that the box showed no particular change, the receptionist nodded her head in satisfication before taking out a card. "What do you wished to referred as?"

"Rain Catcher," replied Will with a bored voice.

"Is there a reason why you wish to be addressed as such?"

"I need to confront my past to overcome it."

The receptionist's smiling face faltered for a moment and Will could catch a look of disgust before it quickly switched back to a warm grin. However it was too late. Will couldn't help but let his expression become cold. It was just as he suspected. This girl was also trying to fool him, just like everyone else. Something in Will snapped.

"I was previously joking," said Will in a cold voice. "I do not wish to be called Rain Catcher, but Phantom."

"A-and why is that?"

"Cause the reason why I wished to be called a certain name has no relation to a two faced person like you."

There was an explosive crack of thunder as the warm glow of the adventurers guild was temporarily overshadowed by the flash of lightning. The receptionist immediately abandoned her fake warm persona and backed away from the counter with a terrified look. "S-s-sorry sir but I-it is our job to-"

"I don't care," whispered Will as the temperature started to slightly drop around them. "I despise being deceived and being spoken to with honeyed words. Do I make myself clear?"

The receptionist nodded her head nervously up and down.

"Hand over my Guild Card."

The receptionist handed over the card with both her hands while trembling. Will took the card out of her hand and glanced over it, making sure the information written was correct.

Without a moment of hesitation, Will headed out of the adventurer's guild with the cold emotionless look plastered on his face. Once they were out, Rina popped out and gave Will a pat on the head.

"Are you all right Will? You seemed very angry."

"...Bad memories," Will muttered. "Very bad memories. Don't worry, Ill be fine after I cool down."

Rina glanced up towards the sky and gave a slight tremble. "Why is the rain so angry.... it's scary."

"Bad memories," said Will in a voice that was barely louder than the softest whisper. "bad memories."

Rina patted Will on the head once more before staring up to the sky. The once orange streaked beautiful sky was now being consumed by a dark and broody gray that let out a low growl every here and then. The more Rina felt Will's heart beat, the louder the stormy gray clouds would rumble until Rina could see flashes of light spark out of the sky.

Seeing the rain cloud act so angry, Rina couldn't help but wonder... What exactly did Will go though in the past?
