Chapter 72: The Siege

The rumble of engines grew louder, a threatening sound that made the ground tremble beneath their feet. Scarlett stood by the window, peering through the thin curtain as headlights pierced the darkness, their beams darting through the trees like searching eyes.

"They're here," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding in her chest.

Nathan adjusted the strap on the rifle Matthew had handed him.

"Then we stick to the plan."

Matthew, his face grim but steady, checked the rounds in his revolver.

 "They'll come hard and fast, but this cabin's built to hold. Keep your heads down and your aim steady." He said.

The first vehicle came to a halt just beyond the clearing, followed by two more. Men in dark gear spilled out, their movements sharp and deliberate. Grayson's mercenaries were professionals, and they had one goal: retrieve Nathan and Scarlett.
