Chapter 27: 20 Weeks

Ana and Scott were at their twenty-week appointment three days later. They had finished with the doctor who had told them that Ana was underweight and needed to concentrate on eating well and avoiding stress. The doctor worried the baby could be underweight at birth leading to health problems.

This was confirmed when the doctor measured her and told them that the baby was measuring behind. He called it a failure to thrive and let them know that right now it was concerning but if they did not take it seriously, their baby could potentially die. Ana started to cry, and Scott tried to comfort her. The doctor told them that they still had time to fix the issue if they worked at it and gave it importance. The doctor prescribed Ana high protein nutritional shakes and a restful lifestyle.
