"Hu...a." Lin Shen felt nauseous till he almost vomited, but the feeling never came out.
His gaze was on the assassin whose entire lower body was roasted. He felt anxious but also angry. The man had attempted to kill him and that was a fact. It was only because of his regeneration that allowed him to survive the onslaught of punches.
Although the bullets were fast and possessed a great penetrative ability, the downside was that the assassin didn't have a great insight on Qi. He had repeatedly shot at the same spot using the thin bullets, allowing him to repair the break in the Qi shield quite fast.
The assassin's punches however were quite heavy. The main reason he almost beat Lin Shen to death was because of the fact that his punches rained down on the latter's face so heavily and in fact covered more area than the bullets.
It took more time and more Qi for Lin Shen to repair all the breaks in the Qi shield that the punches got through.
However, sometimes the assassin didn't seem to be too smart. Usually in the movies assassins and killers would make sure their target was dead by shooting them in the head. This assassin however had thrown aside his gun when it was ineffective and had let his emotions take the better of him.
'Movies can't be trusted.'
Lin Shen wouldn't complain though. He did manage to survive after all. From what he'd analyzed, the client who hired the assassin didn't know him very well and just paid for some low-rank assassin, thinking he was an ordinary boy.
What this meant was that he had somehow offended someone very recently. It couldn't be Wolf's Bane since they were laying low, and the only people he had come in contact with were people from the Yu Conglomerate.
However, what would be their motive in wiping him out? He had saved the Chairman's daughter, so the Chairman was crossed off. Hmm, maybe someone who coveted the company?
'Anyways, things will become clear soon enough.'
Lin Shen gazed at the corpse of the assassin. it was his first time killing someone, and he felt a little...detached? Other than the nausea from killing someone for the first time, there was no other feeling.
He only felt how strange it was that a life that was breathing a moment ago could be so lifeless.
Lin Shen summed it up to him being on the defense. He didn't know the guy very well enough for him to feel guilty. The guy was literally an assassin hired to kill him after all.
Unless he was a fool who felt sympathy for his killer, Lin Shen would never care.
Right now, his biggest problem was the corpse. He needed to get rid of it otherwise once the cops come knocking, he might not be able to attend the exams.
"Brother Lin! Are you alright?" He was contemplating on his next course of actions when Jie Xiulan came running back, her father just behind her.
She hurriedly checked for injuries on his body and saw the blood all over him. "Brother Lin, there's blood all over you!"
Lin Shen watched as Xiulan touched the blood on his face, her expression that of worry. He felt warm seeing her concern and couldn't help but smile.
He stopped her hands that were poking around his face and said, "Alright, don't worry. They don't hurt as much anymore. I just need to replenish my Qi before I can heal myself quicker."
He had a theory that his regeneration would be faster if he used his Life Flame Qi to speed up his recovery. However, since he was currently out of Qi he couldn't test it right now.
Lin Shen finally noticed Jie Zheng and politely bowed. "Greetings, Uncle. What brings you here?"
"Xiulan came back home telling me about an assassin so I immediately rushed here." Jie Zheng replied.
Jie Xiulan then chirped in. "When you told me to run, I knew I wouldn't be of help if I stayed so I ran to someone who could help, which is my Dad."
'She's so thoughtful.' Lin Shen had to admit she was smart.
"Well…" He gestured them towards the corpse of the assassin. "How do I deal with this?"
Jie Xiulan and her father stared at the corpse. She wasn't fazed upon seeing a corpse since being the daughter of the sect leader warranted her the experience of many assassinations. The same could be said for her dad.
Jie Zheng pondered before asking Lin Shen for the details. Only after he got a better grasp on the situation did he take something out from his pocket.
"This green acidic liquid is a body-dissolving potion meant to erase the traces of a corpse." He opened the cap of the potion and dropped a tiny bit onto the corpse. Slowly, there was a faint burning smell as the body seemed to cave in exactly where the tiny drop fell. The body started shrinking and soon disappeared, even the burning smell dispersed.
"Take this. From what you've told me, there are bound to be many more assassins coming your way. You can use this potion after you've won." He handed the potion to Lin Shen as he explained.
Lin Shen took the potion and seemed to hesitate on something. Jie Zheng noticed this and a realization dawned upon him.
"Ohh! I almost forgot, you don't have a storage ring yet!" He lightly admonished himself before explaining to Lin Shen. "Since you don't have a storage ring, I'll make one for you when I return to the sect. For now, you can use your mind space to store objects, although the amount you can store will depend on the size of your mind space. Just hold onto an object while thinking of taking it inside your mind space."
Lin Shen did exactly that and although it took a few tries, the potion finally disappeared into his mind space. He had to imagine a portal absorbing the potion and depositing it into his mind space for it to work.
"Ah right, make sure ordinary people don't see you using your mind space to store objects. If you have to, make it seem like you're taking it out from your pocket or something." Jie Zheng brought up a few points to take in mind.
Lin Shen thought back to the moments when Jie Zheng seemed to have taken things out of his robe. 'So all those times he was taking them from his mind space?'
It seemed to make sense since he was starting to become curious about how many things Jie Zheng's robe could carry.
Anyways, although Lin Shen could use his mind space as a storage space, his phone still had a bigger space, containing quite a lot of slots. However, it wouldn't be convenient to store stuff into his phone in front of people, so the mind space would still be a better alternative. Well, at least until he obtained a storage ring.
"Oh right, Uncle, these talismans?" He showed Jie Zheng the water based offensive paper talismans in his hand that he had yet to use.
"You can keep those for yourself, I have no use for them."
"Thank you, Uncle. I'll head back now." It was already dark out and Lin Shen wanted to go back to take a shower. His clothes had blood on them after all.
"Alright."
"Bye Brother Lin!" Jie Xiulan cheerily waved her hands towards Lin Shen.
"Bye Xiulan." Lin Shen waved back with a smile and returned home.
Seeing his departing back, Jie Xiulan looked towards her father.
"Are you really not going to help him? The assassins that come his way might be stronger than this one."
Jie Zheng shook his head. "I know that. However, it's better to temper himself through combat experience than to just meditate all day. Don't worry though, I'll keep an eye on him in case he can't handle his opponent."
"Dad."
"Yes?"
"You do know he doesn't know any martial techniques right? How do you expect him to improve himself? Get better at tasting punches? You can't be expecting him to miraculously come up with a fighting style when he doesn't even know how to fight, are you?" Jie Xiulan listed a few points while reprimanding her father.
"...I'll find him a suitable technique when I get back to the sect." Jie Xiulan's gaze hardened and he quickly added. "It's not like I'm stingy! You know he has a flame type Qi. My type is water related. My techniques won't be useful for him, so I can only go back to the sect's library."
Only then did Jie Xiulan finally acquiesce. The points her father brought up was reasonable enough. One's martial technique heavily relied on their Qi element after all. Using the wrong martial technique could weaken your fighting prowess and in the worst case, cause Qi deviation.
"Alright, let's head home now. I've set a monitoring talisman around the area, so I'll be notified when those assassins come."
"Okay." Only after knowing that Lin Shen was safe did Jie Xiulan agree to go home.
Hmm this chapter is arguably late. Anyways, I really like it when readers point out errors in my novels. Some of those are so useful I can use them to write my next chapter.
