Chapter 34: The Lone Boogeyman

In a forest somewhere in the proximity of the Vathrian and elven territory, a lone man was present. The man had white hair with an equally silver beard and an eyepatch to cover his left eye. The man was wearing an overcoat made of animal fur and a giant greatsword was hanging on his backside. This man was tall, reaching over 190cm tall and even when it's hidden by his overcoat, you could see his figure was broad and strong.

The lone man kept walking aimlessly in the forest. It wasn't as if he was walking towards any particular direction. He was not carrying any baggage with him as well, making anyone who would encounter him question where this man truly came from.

The man was just walking when a flash of an arrow approached him with incredible speed.

CLANG!

In the split of a second, the greatsword behind the man was already on his hands, blocking the trajectory of the arrow.

"What?" An archer could be seen confused as he was sure that the arrow would hit the man.

"Come out boys!" A man shouted a quickly, 20 men surrounded the lone man.

"Well, well well...A Vathrian walking alone in the forest. How unlucky of you. Come with us peacefully and we won't do anything to you. We just want to ask some...questions." One of the mercenaries told the man. It seemed he was a mercenary belonging to the Red Dragon troupe with Slaven as their leader.

The eyepatched lone man didn't reply as he was just looking at them confused.

"Huh? Is he deaf?" The man questioned.

Another mercenary beside him noticed something odd. "Hey...he may not be Vathrian. His outfit seems...odd...not like the shiny Vathrians." He interjected.

The mercenary who talked before also realized this. "Hey!!! Are you a Vathrian? Who are you!?" He shouted to the man.

Surprisingly, the language that came out of the lone man's mouth wasn't a language the mercenaries was familiar with. "What are you talking about? Get out of my way." The lone man replied in his language.

"Huh? What did you say? Are you a Vathrian!? Spill it out!!!" The man held up his hand and the archers in the team all nocked on their bowstrings, threatening to fire.

"Hey...didn't the Boss say the Vathrians could speak our language?" Another mercenary chimed in.

"Huh? That's right..." The mercenary who shouted just realized.

The lone man didn't understand them but he picked up one common word. "Vathrian....What is that?" He said in his language.

Suddenly, one of the mercenaries had an epiphany "Wait! I heard that language before! I think it belongs to the Zaxson Kingdom of the north! I've heard one of their traders speak before." He said to the group.

"Zaxson? He's not Vathrian? Shit! Well, bring him in! We can't let him tell the Vathrians of our presence yet!" The mercenary raised his hand and all the mercenaries entered combat position.

"Want to fight? So be it." The lone man spoke in his language and went into combat position.

BOOM

The ground underneath the lone man's cracked as he launched himself forward. The force of the launch was so strong the ground sunk and created a small hole.

"W-what!?" It was just a charge but the mercenaries realized in a split second that this man was strong. "Get ready!" The mercenary shouted.

SLASH

"AGH!" A slash of the greatsword cut one mercenary in half like a knife through butter.

The man jumped into the air and did a ground pummel with his ground sword, creating a shockwave and destroying the ground.

"AAAH!"

"UUGH!"

Five men instantly died.

"Shit! He's too strong!" A mercenary shouted.

"Mage! Cast a spell!" Another mercenary shouted to the only mage of the group, a man wearing a robe.

"Got it!" The mage started chanting with his staff. "Firestorm!" After just a second, a vortex of fire escaped his wand.

VOOOOSH

The fire was on its way to the man.

"Hmph." The man snickered. "Ice shield." The man muttered and from out of the ground, a wall of ice was created, blocking the firestorm.

"What! He's also a mage!?" The mage of the mercenaries were shocked. Battle mages were not common.

"Ice layer." The man muttered and his greatsword instantly froze, creating a layer of ice.

BOOM

The man launched himself forward again and destroying the ground.

SLASH SLASH SLASH

"Agh!"

"FU-"

"MAMA!!"

One by one, all of the mercenaries were mercilessly cut down by the man's greatsword. The force of the greatsword guaranteed that each of them died in multiple pieces. It wasn't a fair battle at all and the man didn't seem like he was using much force at all.

After a while, the man was just standing there with his greatsword of ice while bodies of the mercenaries were scattered around him.

"Vathrian.." The man muttered, repeating what the mercenaries said. "I don't know if these men were the Vathrian they mentioned or they assumed I was somehow related to that Vathrian thing..."

The man removed his ice layer and put his greatsword on his backside again.

"Vathrian...if this is a place...let's see if it's finally somewhere I can retire peacefully..." The man said and walked aimlessly through the forest again.

Please imagine Mads Mikkelsen from the new Netflix film 'Polar' when you imagine this man. (PLEASE SEE THE AUXILLARY CHAPTER FOR OTHER CHARACTERS AS FILM ACTORS)

Additionally, from now on, we'll have the names of attacks said verbally. This isn't realistic but it makes battle scenes much more fun.
