I walk up to Bennett, suddenly taking note of tens of guards who stand all the way up the steps. Each one is only two steps apart. Bennett extends his hand for me to shake, a smile prominent on his tired, looking face. He looks like he hasn't been sleeping lately. "Long time no see," he says as our hands interlock. They fit perfectly in each other. Almost too perfectly.
"Hey," I greet him. We let go of each other's hands. I gesture to everyone around me, and they one by one step up to shake the King's hand. "We're ready to do this whenever you are."
Bennett nods once he has shaken each hand. "I'll lead the way then," He says before turning around and starting his way up the steps as he passes each guard, they salute him. It still hasn't processed in my head how much power Bennett holds. It may be because he treats me differently than he treats others. I am his mate, after all, so he's bound to treat me differently.
