Snow swirled past the window, the glass rattling as the wind roared. The common room was completely abandoned, well almost completely. Alice Payne sat in one of the best armchairs next to the fire, petting a fat orange tabby that sat regally in her lap. She sighed, drumming her fingers against the chair arm. She checked her watch. Standing suddenly, her cat leaped to the floor, looking up at her in disgust as she ran up to her dormitory. A few moments later she came down the stairs, a cloak now fastened around her neck. She rushed out of the common room, hoisting her bag onto her shoulder as the fat lady's portrait swung closed behind her. She walked down the corridor, enjoying the silence. A door right next to her swung open, she jumped. Her bag slipped off her shoulder, scattering books everywhere. Alice looked up to see a tall boy with bleach blonde hair and a scowl.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Alice said bending down to collect her books, shoving them into her bag.
"Watch where you are going next time," the boy said leaning against the wall and staring down at her.
"Well you aren't entirely blameless," Alice said putting her hands defiantly on her hips. "If you hadn't come barreling out of that room I wouldn't have dropped my stuff."
"Excuse me?" The boy said, moving toward her. "Do you know who I am?"
"Let me guess," Alice said, drumming her finger against her chin. "Self-involved only child from a rich family and a stick so high up your butt it would take surgery to remove it." The boy stepped back, folding his arms as he shifted his look of surprise into cold defiance.
"I am Scorpius Malfoy."
"Well in that case I was surprisingly right,"
"Ah my reputation proceeds me."
"Yeah, but I wouldn't be so cocky about it,"
"Oh did someone say something mean." He said with a fake whimper.
"They said you're a jackass,"
Scorpius' scowl deepened.
"You didn't look scary when I first saw you,"
"Looks can be deceiving," Alice said matching his scowl with one of her own.
"Clearly," he said turning around swiftly and marched away. Alice scoffed, whirling around and stomping to the kitchens. There is one thing she knew for certain, she was in desperate need of a snack.
