Chapter 4: The Guest Behind the Back

Little kids were bobbing their heads at her. But wherever she bobbed she saw shadow energy. Shadow jewelry, shadow lights, shadow portraits, shadow ink, shadow yarn, shadow outfits. She was following Fei Yu in the local bazaar.

She hid her hair with a hat that she bought with the money June gave her before leaving. She couldn't get why people still glanced at her. There are plenty of female warriors in this era.

"Seems like nobody in your village ever got high drinking shadow tea."

Shadow tea? She masks her surprise. "No. Mere shadow energy is rare there."

"Do you wanna try shadow tea?" he asked playfully. "Well, I suggest not to. Shadow energy has different types of side effects on different people."

"Have you tried it?" she asked, arching an eyebrow.

He formed a pretty smile on his face that could make girls swoon. "Yes. More than once. And I had enough." Gazing at her hat, he said, "I think you look better without this. You have pretty hair."

In her new memory, nobody ever pointed at her beauty. Legionaries hardly liked warrior women because they weren't easy to dominate.

She felt lost and confused under his gaze. She couldn't fathom what was going on inside her. She hadn't even noticed her own beauty but beasty strength.
