Chapter 2: chapter 1
Brook sat in the back seat of her aunts car, the ride was silent and eerie, not a word was spoken. The road was long and bland. At last the car had pulled up to a stop at a large house up in the countryside. 'your room is on the second floor to the right!' Brook's aunt said walking off to the sitting room to have some tea and cakes. Brook walked up the stairs and down the hall to find a door that looked old and worn yet beautifully carved with roses and butterfly. She opened the door the door to find a small and comfy room. She stepped in and threw herself onto the twin bed that lay in the top right corner of the room. ' this can't be happening' she said as she wiped her eyes dry. Brook got herself back on her feet and made her way to the window. 'I miss them. this isn't fair' she sniffled as she gazed up at the clouds. That night Brook was sent to bed without dinner for her incessant whining and wailing. She cried her eyes out that night, she couldn't fathom why all of this was happening. It didn't make sense, but she didn't care, nothing could bring her family back, and nothing could soothe the pain in her aching heart. For many weeks Brook would be sent to bed with no dinner, this was how it was for brook. days at a time Brook's heart shriveled to almost nothingness. Brook wasn't longing for kindness, nor did she want it, she wanted to forget everything, she wanted to drown her sorrows in the darkest depths of her mind. Brook slowly broke down and every night, there were more tears than the last.
Brooks birthday was arriving soon. She didn't expect to receive gifts or cards. She didn't want anything, she knew deep down no one would care, so she didn't either. She was dreading the day that she would be reminded of the fact that she has no one to cherish her birth with.
It was a couple days till her birthday was to arrive. Brook sat down on her rug and took out some paper and a pen. She began to draw random figures and characters. Brook found drawing helped numb the pain, it was a way of getting out her emotions on to paper. Eventually Brook got bored with drawing and set the pen and paper down on her dresser. Brook thought that she should go and find a good book to read before bed. She silently crept out the door and down the stairs to the sitting room. She picked up a large navy blue book titled "all the wonders of the world". Brook took the book and silently raced back up the stairs. She flopped down on her bed and began to read the book. an few hours had passed and Brook was sound asleep. It was the first real sleep she had since the accident. but it wouldn't be her last.
