Chapter 14: It's Not Like They're Real Dragons or Anything

Although devils are defined and ruled by their internal ambition and desire for domination. Another innate attribute of their existence is how they utilize pacts, deals, and contracts to grant them power. They have since the dawn of time, primarily with the bartering of souls, but they still do to this very day.

Devil contracts, just like the rituals that Tom had knowledge of, rely on symbolism for the most part. Once summoned, a devil performs a service for a payment they consider equal enough. It's possible for devils to perform a service for a mundane work of art or even a few weeks of lethargy.

However, that gives little gain to the devil in question.

Helping clean the house, babysit, or walk a human's dogs will grant an increase in a devil's max power, inching them towards the next rank as free training. Since peerages came into existence, pacts give most of their gains to the active devil, but also pool some of it, before distributing the remainder to the rest of the peerage members. It's simply another use of the Evil Piece system that devils can't get around.

However, simple contracts that average teenagers could perform are only done by the laziest of devils. They only make contracts to go through the motions. Contracts for Dark Artifacts and wizarding treasures would give Harry much more. He couldn't just pop into Malfoy Manor and raid them of their goods, though. Because of how devils worked, he needed to perform a service for the mutual benefit of both parties.

Harry set up his fliers to only allow people to summon his peerage if they had desires about several broad categories. Also, they only work if the summoner has something of value to trade. He included a poem on the back with Sirius' help.

For the wizarding world, it was perfect. They love their riddles.

Smirking at the inside joke about Tom Riddle, Harry emerged from the summoning circle, wings spread wide as the fog of death radiated from his body while he made his eyes glow with power.

He was pretty excited and decided to go all out with the dramatics. Mostly, because he knew he was being summoned to Romania of all places. The only information that he received from the spell was the location and desire.

If he had a Queen or a responsible peerage member, this would be their job. It's why he limited the number of fliers that he had Fawkes spread across Britain. The fact that the summoning was from so far away, he wanted to intimidate and be prepared.

"Harry? Is that you?"

Maybe he should have changed his appearance more? He hadn't decided if it should be an open secret in the wizarding world that he was a devil that took contracts or not. Magical Britain and the surrounding areas didn't know about devils as far as he knew, but it was a grey area if he exposed that knowledge.

Technically, they're supernatural, but they're at a lower level than the rest of the world. During Harry's talk with Cadaer when he died, he learned that the only reason the Statute of Secrecy is in place is because of Ajuka Beelzebub.

One of the greatest geniuses in Heaven, Hell, and Earth, he built a device that alters video and photographic evidence from electronic devices and film whenever supernatural memories were hypnotized or Obliviated away.

Every other supernatural group other than the students from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, Durmstrung, Ilvermony in America, and a small school in Australia. All are places where the fey-blooded wizards and witches from the time of the Round Table emigrated to.

"Charlie? You're the only person that I know who could be in this country. Well, what can I do for you?"

Harry had only met Charlie at the Quidditch World Cup, during the Triwizard Tournament, and at the Delacour/Weasley wedding. If he remembered correctly, the dragon-loving Weasley spent most of the war recruiting foreign wizards.

"You're a devil, Harry, what happened to you?"

Harry sighed. He should have expected this, really. The short, stocky ginger stood in front of him with a dragon to his side in an enclosed.

Well, drake, really. The dragons used as livestock in the wizarding world are a mockery compared to real dragons.

"I've always been one," Harry lied through his teeth. "My mum was one too, its how I survived the killing curse as a baby."

"Oh," Charlie blinked. "I didn't think they were real, but I've seen stranger things. I guess that explains a few things actually."

The dragon roared a solemn whine.

For some reason, it sounded to Harry that it was crying for its mate, but parseltongue didn't work on drakes.

"So..." Harry trailed awkwardly before he pulled his wings back into his body. "Retrieval of stolen goods then?"

"Uhh, ya," Charlie made a slight cough, "This dragon's mate was stolen by vampires while out for a fly."

Harry looked at the drake, then back at Charlie. "I'm gonna take a wild guess here, this Hungarian Horntail's mate is Norbert, right?"

The Weasley nodded his head slowly.

"The same Horntail that I smuggled out of Hogwarts. The same Horntail that shoved its tail into my body in defense of fake eggs."

"That's the one."

Harry sighed. "Potter luck strikes again. I can handle it though, I got pretty powerful since Hogwarts."

"Ya, we noticed when you disappeared after the battle. I-uhh. The dragon was taken by the Tepes faction."

"Tepes? That sounds familiar. In DADA, something Snape said when Professor Lupin was... out on full moons."

By Satan this was awkward.

"I wouldn't doubt it. The Tepes and Carmilla factions keep to their own, but not even the Transylvanian Lords can do anything to them. They hardly ever leave their castles, but Norbert..." Charlie paused. "I found the summoning flier in my baggage and gave a shot because unless you can help, Norbert as good as dead."

Harry knew why it was familiar. It wasn't from Snape's lecture. It was from the book on the Three Factions that Cadaer gave him. The Tepes and Carmilla factions can form peerages just like devils, but they're so focused on blood purity that the rest of the world leaves them alone, even if they kidnap the random innocent from time to time.

He looked over at the Horntail who was begging for help with his whimpering.

And yes, it was a male. Hagrid named his drake Norbert because he didn't know it was female.

"I'll get your mate back."

"Harry, when did parseltongue work with dragons?"

They may not gain greater sentience like when he talked to snakes, but at least he could understand them with devil magic. Maybe he could bring the dragon back without an issue.

Charlie agreed with Harry that if the dragon was already trapped in the castle, hooked up and having its blood drained, he would give it a mercy killing.

Neither Charlie or Harry mentioned his past with Ginny, Ron, the rest of the Weasley family, the battle against Voldemort, or the fact that he's technically a wanted criminal for the theft at Gringotts or his use of Unforgivables. He got directions to the castle and took to the sky with an air of an experienced professional.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Inviolable Inviolable

There is a reason that Harry is the only devil that operates in Magical Britain, a basically untapped goldmine of contracts for people that would easily accept the existence of devils as well as use them. This isn't an oversite but will be addressed later.

Probably much later.
