Emma glanced at the overdue rent notice hanging on the door, choosing to ignore it. The ground floor served as her office, while she ascended the stairs to the second floor, where she lived.

As she moved towards the small kitchenette, she contemplated the unexpected return to Frearset.

The flickering light in the kitchen revealed the sparseness of her provisions. A quick survey of the fridge offered minimal inspiration for a meal.

As Emma settled onto the worn-out couch, the soft glow of the city's lights outside provided a solitary comfort.
