Chapter 142: Chp-142: Changes in the Monotony

Today's mission was as uneventful as always.

After dinner, Kushina and Minato resumed their usual activities.

It seemed they had learned their lesson from last time, as the curtains were tightly drawn this time.

Medical ninjas in the village had mentioned that such activities during pregnancy could increase the risk of miscarriage.

But evidently, Minato didn't seem to notice this point.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for the unborn child. Would he know about this when he grew up?

Occasional sounds through the window made me deeply feel the darkness of this village.

Such things were truly boring.

*Sigh!*

Recently, it seemed my nutrition was a bit lacking.

After work, I might go get some barbecue.

Today's mission was as dull and tedious as ever.

...

With a long exhale, Kakashi closed his completed mission diary.

His fish-like dead eyes appeared somewhat listless.

Inside the room, the noises also ceased almost simultaneously.

Kakashi stretched, loosening his body stiffened from maintaining one position for so long.

"Finally, time for dinner."

With a whoosh, Kakashi disappeared from the tree branch.

...

In the streets of Konoha, it was already evening.

Kakashi was looking for that barbecue place he remembered.

His stomach was growling with hunger.

After a day of missions, he was eager to replenish his nutrition.

"Kakashi?"

The familiar voice from behind made him stop in his tracks.

Turning around, he saw Rin Nohara smiling at him.

"What a coincidence, you're here too?"

Kakashi still wore his deadpan expression.

"Yeah, long time no see. What have you been up to lately?"

Rin asked with a smile.

Kakashi thought about his secret mission. The pregnancy of the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki was now a village secret.

He replied dismissively, "Nothing much, just a mission."

Rin's eyes dimmed instantly, and she softly responded, "Oh."

Biting her lip, Rin hesitated as if she wanted to say something.

But Kakashi suddenly spoke, "Rin, if there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."

Rin was stunned for a moment but then nodded helplessly, "Okay."

She watched Kakashi leave with a complicated look, trying to comfort herself.

Kakashi must be exhausted, right?

He seemed a lot more haggard.

He must be on some tough mission!

...

Ichiraku Ramen.

A steaming bowl of ramen was placed in front of Rin, but she seemed to have no appetite, staring blankly at it.

"Rin? What a coincidence, you're here for ramen too?"

Anko, looking surprised, pulled out the chair next to Rin and sat down.

"Anko, what a coincidence. Finished with your patients for today?"

Rin snapped out of her daze and replied with a smile.

Both of them worked at Konoha Hospital, spending a lot of time together and becoming familiar with each other over time.

"Not bad! My job mainly involves collecting research data, so I don't have many patients to treat."

"I'm so jealous! Having a Hokage as your teacher."

Rin said enviously.

Both worked at the hospital, but Anko only had to record data in the office, while Rin had to treat a large number of patients every day.

"Not really…" Anko scratched her head awkwardly, "Minato-sama is also very excellent."

Ichiraku placed a steaming bowl of ramen in front of Anko.

"Your pork bone ramen, enjoy!"

"Thank you."

Anko thanked him with a smile.

She then broke apart her chopsticks and started eating heartily.

After a couple of bites, she noticed that Rin still hadn't touched her food.

Hesitating, she asked, "Rin, have you told Kakashi about it yet?"

Rin glanced at her and shook her head, "No."

Anko's expression turned serious. She put her chopsticks down and said earnestly, "Rin, if you don't say it now, you might never have the chance later."

"Sensei has already approved your application to become one of the Twelve Guardian Ninjas. You have only half a month before you leave for the Daimyo's residence. You might not see him again."

"I understand."

Rin nodded.

Becoming one of the Twelve Guardian Ninjas was her new goal.

After experiencing the Third Great Ninja War, she was tired of the harsh reality among ninjas. If she could simply protect the Daimyo, it might bring her some peace of mind.

Fortunately, being an excellent medical ninja was also crucial for the Daimyo.

So, she was exceptionally accepted.

She only had half a month left in the village.

Looking at the village under the sunset, Rin felt a wave of melancholy.

Kakashi, Obito, and everyone in the village, goodbye.

"I'll say goodbye to Kakashi next time!"

...

Konoha.

On top of a tall building, Obito stood in the shadow of the water reservoir, overlooking the village under the sunset.

Rin was leaving?

The Twelve Guardian Ninja, huh, such a boring position.

Whatever, it doesn't matter.

Whether it's Kakashi, Rin, or this village, I once sacrificed my life for them, and what did I get in return...

Huh, this hypocritical world.

"Obito, look what I found?"

Zetsu suddenly emerged from the ground behind him with a playful smile.

"I told you not to call me by that name!"

Obito spoke coldly, his crimson eyes glancing at Zetsu.

White Zetsu seemed frightened by this scene, stammering, "M-Madara, we discovered something interesting."

"What is it?"

"The Nine-Tails Jinchuriki is about to give birth on October 10th. I infiltrated Konoha Hospital and gathered this confidential information with great effort."

Nine-Tails...

Obito's eyes narrowed, remembering what Madara had told him before he died.

"Tobi—no, Madara, you know what this means, right?"

White Zetsu sneered.

Obito didn't respond, still standing in the shadow of the tall building, silently overlooking most of Konoha.

"What's up with Obito?"

White Zetsu asked curiously, looking at his back.

"He's reminiscing."

In Black Zetsu's hollow eyes, a flicker of intrigue shone.

"Reminiscing?"

"Yes, he needs time to reminisce about this village and his past."

White Zetsu was puzzled.

"So, Obito still has some attachment to this village?"

Black Zetsu laughed, his voice raspy.

"No, quite the opposite."

"Drowning in sentiment, using memories of the past to reaffirm his determination, leaving only coldness and hatred."

"Now, Obito has at long last become the person we need."
