Chapter 70: | Bloodbath

Jack was breathing deeply as he turned to look at Ava. 'I wanted to kill them.' He stared at them and then back at Ava in disbelief. 'More than anything.'

'You were never like this before,' Ava hissed, hugging herself. 'It's that stuff, that damned stuff Lucy gave you, it must be!'

'Jesus, Ava…' Jack started to shake, tears welling up and streaking down his cheeks. 'I couldn't stop myself…'

'Enough,' snarled Marcy. Her eyes were yellow and bright, her features beginning to buckle and shift.

Stroke was pushing himself up onto his hands and knees. His eyes were shut, and his forehead gashed open. Jack watched as thick, coarse hair started to sprout from the wound.

'This way, Jack!' Ava shouted as she jumped up onto the wide metal rail that ran along the side of the bridge. 'Jack, come on. Come on. The wolves can't climb.'

Ava swung herself down onto the top bar of the steelwork ranged against the bridge's side and began to clamp down to the planks below.
