Ren is certainly an enigma. Waking up in his brother-in-law's house with no memory of his past, yet brimming with knowledge that defies his goblin nature. It's not every day you come across a goblin who's a master builder, farmer, and fisherman, all rolled into one. Sure, our tribe dabbles in those skills too, but Ren takes it to a whole new level.

But what really sets him apart is his fascination with mana, magic, and skills. I mean, he's a goblin duke, yet there's not a whiff of mana leaking from his body. It's like he's hiding a whole world of power beneath that stoic exterior. And when I treated his wound, I could sense something stirring inside him, something primal and potent.

He's stoic, alright. Normally, goblins would be falling over themselves to court me, especially with my sister by my side. But Ren? Not a flicker of interest. It's frustrating, sure, but I can't deny there's something intriguing about him. Tall, muscular, oozing confidence like it's going out of style.

"Geeta! Ice Wall!" my brother-in-law's voice snaps me back to the chaos at hand.

"Right! Wall of Frost!" I respond, conjuring a barrier of ice to shield us from the griffin's onslaught.

If only my sister were here with her fire and wind magic, we'd have this beast on the ropes in no time. But with her expecting a little bundle of joy, bringing her into this fray would be madness.

Focus, Geeta, focus. We've got a griffin to bring down. We've landed some solid hits, but this stubborn bird just won't quit. My mana's dwindling faster than I'd like, and time is running out.

"Geeta! One more time!" my brother-in-law's command slices through the chaos.

"Got it!" I chant, summoning the power of ice shards to rain down upon the griffin.

"Dear spirits of ice, heed my call,

show your coldness and form an icicle in my call.

Ice Shards!" I intone, unleashing a barrage of icy projectiles towards our feathered foe.

The griffin tries to swat them away, but some find their mark, lacerating its flesh. With the griffin momentarily distracted, my brother-in-law seizes the opportunity to strike.

But in the blink of an eye, the griffin changes tactics, hurtling towards me with deadly intent. Panic seizes me, freezing me in place as death looms dangerously close.

"Geeta! Dodge!" My brother-in-law's urgent cry pierced the chaos, but my feet remained rooted to the spot, as if held in place by invisible chains. With the griffin hurtling towards me, I braced myself behind my shield, preparing for the inevitable impact.

...

I braced for the searing pain, for the rush of power that never came. Slowly, I cracked open my eyes to find Ren standing before me, his arms outstretched as if challenging the griffin with nothing but his bare strength, the strange energy I had sensed before swirling around him like an aura.

"Ren!" I exclaimed, relief flooding my voice.

"Urrgghhh. Roaaaaar!" Ren's primal shout reverberated through the air as he forcefully hurled the griffin backward.

Sound of water drops

My ears pricked at the unexpected sound, and I glanced around, searching for its source. There, amidst the chaos, I spotted it—Oz's borrowed cloth, now stained crimson with blood. Yet, even in the face of such grievous wounds, his smirk remained unyielding.

"Geeta, lend me your great sword," Ren's voice cut through the tension, cool and composed.

Without hesitation, I tossed him my blade, watching in awe as he caught it effortlessly with a single hand.

"Let's settle this once and for all, you crazy beast," Ren declared, his words ringing with the fervor of a battle-hardened warrior.

With sheer brute force, Ren charged headlong at the griffin, meeting its ferocious onslaught with unwavering resolve. Their clash was like a primal dance of strength and fury, each blow echoing with the clash of steel against flesh.

"Damn it, strong," Ren grunted, his voice a testament to the relentless struggle.

"Of course, it's a Griffin," I retorted with a wry grin.

"Geeta, could you chant the Wall of Frost once more before I engage with the Griffin, and then Ice Shards after I make contact?" Ren's request was calm and collected, his confidence unwavering.

"I've got enough mana left for both spells," I assured him, a newfound sense of determination coursing through me.

"Excellent. Inform your brother-in-law to strike immediately after my blow lands," Ren instructed, striding back into the fray with an air of unwavering certainty.

Where did he find such unshakeable confidence?

I relayed Ren's strategy to my brother-in-law, who nodded in agreement, his determination mirroring Ren's.

"You're one tough bird," Ren muttered as he charged once more, his movements fluid and purposeful.

As Ren closed in on the griffin, I summoned the Wall of Frost, the frigid mist surrounding us like a protective barrier. With perfect timing, my brother-in-law struck from behind, our combined assault catching the griffin off guard.

The creature recoiled in pain, unable to evade our synchronized onslaught. Our strikes found their mark, piercing the griffin's defenses with ease.

As the life ebbed from the beast, a shimmering card materialized before us, bearing the image of the human queen before vanishing into thin air.

I wanted to ask Ren about it, but before I could utter a word, he collapsed, his strength spent.

"Ren!" My brother-in-law and I shouted in unison, rushing to his side.

It was clear he had lost too much blood. With great care, we carried him back to my brother-in-law's house, where I set about tending to his wounds once more.

Today had been exhausting, but witnessing Ren's bravery made it all worthwhile.
