Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Maya Pov

I didn't love him, he tortured and held me captive for two years. I looked Lorenzo in the eyes showing him that I wasn't going to answer that question. That was my past, something he shouldn't even know. I knew he wanted to know what exactly happened, I am sure the files didn't say. All they had was the 911 called I made and his cause of death. If it wasn't for Matt I would be rotting in jail right now.

I saw the defeat in his eyes, he knew I wasn't going to tell him.

"We are having guests, dress appropriately" he says before making his way out.

"Guest?!" I called after him. Why do I need to be there?. And when he says guests does he mean 4 people or a hundred.

Cazzo!

Deciding it would be better if I took my bath later at night. It was almost dinner time, normally Maria would bring my food up but I think we are going to be eating together tonight.

Going to the wardrobe looking for something to wear. The buries on my face and body are almost gone, you can only see a few marks. But I didn't want to wear something revealing. Since the weather was hot today I decided to go with a sundress, not my style but that's all that seems to fill the closet which made sense cause of the weather.

The dress had buttons going all the way down, the sleeves were a bit bigger than I liked but it looked good on me. Made me look innocent, like an angle. Ha! I laughed out loud. Yeah I'm anything but an angel. Putting my hair into a neater ponytail, it's longer than I want it to be. I am in need of a hair cut, I never like long hair ever since that bastard.

I stopped applying lip gloss when I heard the sound of a car pulling up, since I was in the other side of the house I couldn't see the drive way. But the cars were pretty loud. I wonder who it could be? And does he want me there, normally he would have Raffael tell me not to leave my room whenever he had guest. I wonder why today was different. Huh?

I made my way to the kitchen, surprised Raffael wasn't at my door. Where was he? Not that I enjoyed his company. The house was empty and quite, all you could here were my red heels hitting the tiles. where were the guests? I'm sure I heard there cars pulling up.

The kitchen on the other hand was crazy, pots clacking. The cooks screaming and cursing in Italian, yeah you get the gist.

"Miss Maya you shouldn't be here" Maria says when she sees me walking towards her.

Maria was a black head petty girl, she was the one who was bring me my food. I've gotten to like her a little bit, she was the only one my age here.

"Mr Lorenzo told us you were having dinner with them" Maria says arranging a bunch of plates

"Yeah we'll I can't find them" I told her, not that I looked for them. I don't mind hanging out in the kitchen.

"They are at the garden, now shoo before you make him angry" she pushes me towards the door.

She closed the door in face before I could say anything, how rude. She even locked me out the back door. I could see a guard from where I was standing. He stopped and looked at me pausing for a second, he held his rifle closer to his body. Did he think I was trying to do something? Not yet. I turned around and made my way to the garden.

It was beautiful of a day. It was hotter than Hades, probably why he decided to have the dinner outside. I could hear voices but it wasn't loud, so it was just a few people.

They were all sitting on a long table, it was only 5 people, I could see Lorenzo in a white shirt sitting at the edge of the table. But that wasn't what made me look. It was the beautiful blonde that was talking to him. I couldn't see her face but I could tell she was a beauty, by the way he was looking at her. There was another man an the other head, he looked older a than the rest.

I took a sit at the only empty chair next to Alessio and some women. That was when they notices me. Ignoring there puzzled faces I poured myself a glass of water from the pitcher. Blinding sunlight streamed through the large window in front of me. It was an awful spot to sit, honestly, but this was the sit they left for me. Why was I here again?

Alessio shift uncomfortably in his chair, clearing his throat and pouring himself some water. My eyes narrowed on him as I sipped water through a straw. "You got a hickey on your neck."

He rubbed the spot, muttering, "Told her not to do that."

I shook my head, not wanting to know how he'd gotten some action in. Not that I was surprised, he was very charming.

"And who is this lovely young lady Lorenzo" the old man asked, showing me his half missing teeth.

"She's a friend" he says making eye contact with me. Lair I thought.

"Ahh, alway good to have a friend" he winked at me. Disgusting.

"Nice to meet you dear" on the woman on other side of me says. I smile at her, surprised how nice they were.

I blinked against the bright sunlight, I was tense like I'd expected it to be. However, the oddest thing about it was Alessio. He seemed distant, like he was here but his thoughts were a mile away. He only stared at Lorenzo and the girl, when he was known for never shutting up. The blonde was now looking at me confused, her blue eyes were scanning my face. I was right she was gorgeous.

"And will there be a honeymoon?" the old guy asked.

Unease danced beneath my skin to a foreboding tune. I shifted in my seat. Confused. Someone is getting married?

I looked at Lorenzo, he ran a hand across his jaw, glancing up at the sky. My gaze followed his, the sky was clear and blue, the sun hurting my eyes.

A tickle played in my awareness when I saw a black helicopter flying lower than usual. And by the time I saw the machine gun, Lorenzo's voice filled my ears, "Scendi!"

Down.

Shouts broke out. Scendi, scendi,

scendi, over and over again like a messed-up recording with a myriad of voices. Alarm came on the air so thick I could taste it on my tongue.

And then a lungful of air escaped me as I was taken to the floor. A heavy body covered mine as glass shattered in an unmistakable pattern. Gunfire. My heartbeat drummed in my ears, and I couldn't discern it from the bullets flying above me.

I knew who lay on me, I could feel the familiar wetness on my stomach. A feeling I knew.

It felt like it went on forever, before a stillness fell over and the helicopter sounded distant.

I heard the words, but my thoughts were focused on red. Blood dripped to the stoney floors in my line of vision.

Pushing the body off of me, I knew she was dead. My once white dress was soaked in her blood.

I felt someone pulling me up.

"Are you okay" I looked up to see Lorenzo, relief washed over me.

I nodded, the ringing in my ears fading.

"Get off me" trying to make sure Alessio was still alive and not dead like that unknown woman.

"Stop." He gripped my wrists. "His fine".

"Okay"

I heard the words, but my thoughts were focused on red. Blood dripped from my face.

His hands grasped my face, turning it.

"Are you okay?" Lorenzo repeated.

I nodded, the ringing in my ears fading

His hands and gaze ran down my body, checking anyway, but I didn't feel it because all I saw was the drip, drip, drip of red. Anguish tore into my chest, cutting my consciousness down to only emotion. I pushed Lorenzo's hands away.

"Stop." He gripped my wrists. "Your bleeding"

I blinked numbly. "Yeah?"

"Yeah." He ran a thumb across my head.

"Ahh" I felt the warm liquid down my face, I guess I hit my head hard.

"Breathe."

I inhaled a steady breath, and it was then that I heard their voices. They were all checking in, and I hadn't been able to hear it over the horror of that dripping blood.

I was the one bleeding plus the woman on the floor groaned.

"Son of a bitch,!" Alessio screamed while holding his arm. "The same fucking arm."

He spit Italian over the phone and the blonde was crying. Everywhere was a mess. He places me on the chair surrounded by broken glass and disorder.

"Call Enzo, we need to clean up this mess" he tells Alessio pointing to the woman.

"And tell him find out who rented that helicopter by morning!" he yells in Italian.

"Will be going now, Cara come on! My daughter could have been killed, her maid is there in the floor. Dead! All because of your stupid war!" The old man yelled at the girl who looked like she just shit herself. Instead of reply Lorenzo walked towards the glass and punches it hard till it all fell down. I wince from the sound.

"Bring my car around!" he yells a guard I didn't notice behind me.

"Alzarsi" he tell me.

Get up.

"We are going to my safe house for the night"
